Two top Normandy destinations are a breeze to get to from family-friendly Camping L'Hypo'Camp: the World War II memorial of Omaha beach (five kilometres) and the spectacular sight of the Bayeux Tapestry, within 10. Omaha beach, the one five kilometres away, has a watersports centre with sailing activities. When you return back to base, there are more ways to unwind, as the quiet site has a children's play area with a seesaw and swings. Barbecues are allowed on site too for alfresco dinners, and there's the convenience of having a small grocery shop on site if you need to gather ingredients. There are also other amenities including two well-maintained shower and toilet blocks. L'Hypo'Camp is outside the coastal commune of Colleville-sur-Mer, just under 40 kilometres from Calvados department capital Caen.

Liked The very warm welcome was much appreciated. Facilities spotless and clean. The pitch sizes are great and the fresh bread and croissants pre ordered were delicious and very fresh. Overall a wonderful stay so we extended our visit another night. Great cycle routes to many of the WW2 memorials. A perfect location.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Liked Proximity to and access to Omaha beach and a beach/ trail route along its length ( early morning run was a bucket list ticked). Showers were fabulous , site facilities brilliant. Great staging post for trips.

Disliked Need a car to get to restaurants and supermarket but only a small critique as Port Bessin Huppin and Bayeux had lots of character and restaurants.

We wanted to visit the beaches, great location for this.

Liked Friendly welcome, nice pitches, clean toilets and showers apart from the last day when I found a turd in the men’s shower. Little bar and fresh bread were a bonus. Only 20 minutes walk from Omaha Beach was good. Pizza vending machine is a five minute walk down the road. Central campsite to all the museums, cemeteries and beaches.

Liked Small, peaceful and friendly campsite. Near to some amazing cycle paths that take you to Bayeaux and Omaha beach. It’s in a beautiful area and has a farm shop nearby.
The owners are very helpful and you can order pastries and bread from them. It has a bar too.
The shower block has plenty of unlimited hot water and is immaculate.
We can’t wait to return.

The Normandy tourist destinations of Omaha beach and the Bayeux Tapestry see hundreds of thousands of visitors to this region every year. The American Cemetery and Memorial is just a five-minute drive from the site, in Colleville-sur-Mer. At Bayeux (20 minutes' drive), take the time to explore the town and its small shops, as well as its famous tapestry and cathedral. Playgrounds, a watersports centre and cultural events are all within driving distance of Camping L'Hypo'Camp, so there's always something to do. A cycling path is directly accessible from the site, or you could cycle along the entire coast on the dedicated coastal cycling path. Fishing, horse riding and canoeing should provide plenty more entertainment by the coast, as should the local sands within a kilometre, and the fishing boat views from the harbour of Port-en-Bessin, three kilometres from the site. The World War II memorial and museum of La Pointe du Hoc are within 20 minutes' drive of the site. Also, remember to take your chance to have a tour of the Isigny Sainte Mère Coopérative (20 minutes' drive) cheese and butter factory.
