Weave a scenic and historic Normandy holiday with a colourful stay at Camping Municipal des Bords de l'Aure, an easy riverside walk away from the town centre of Bayeux and its world-famed tapestry telling the story of the Battle of Hastings and the Norman invasion of England.

More recent history can be had around the Normandy D-Day beaches, 10 kilometres away, or you could opt for the many outdoor activities in the region, like the 36-hole golf course at Omaha beach, or the horse riding and watersports centres also within 10 kilometres. Even more modernly, the Festyland amusement park is 20 kilometres away.

The site has bikes to hire to take to the town or the coast. Also around for guests are an indoor pool, playground, table tennis, table football, pétanque court and volleyball court.

Liked:	Friendly staff who spoke perfect English and helped us with our imperfect French. Lovely site that was well kept and well located to visit the Normandy beaches and museums. We would definitely return to this campsite.
Disliked:	There are no soap dispensers in the bathrooms, although there are some by the washing up sinks. There are only three showers and although we didn't find this a problem it could be later in the season when the site is full. Our pitch was quite tight to drive/ reverse the Campervan in to, although the pitches on site varied in size so worth mentioning when you book.

Local attractions

Take the peaceful stroll or quick bike ride from the site into the centre of Bayeux a kilometre away, home of course to the mammoth Bayeux Tapestry, the 68 metres of 11th-century tapestry depicting the Normandy invasion of England and the subsequent Battle of Hastings.

Also in town is the 11th-century Bayeaux Cathedral, a British war cemetery, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy and the MAHB art museum, with paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, porcelain and Bayeux lace from throughout the centuries.

Another D-Day museum is at Arromanches-les-Bains, 12 kilometres north-east of Bayeux, and the Normandy landing beaches of Omaha, Juno and Utah are all within 40 kilometres. The Caen Memorial, commemorating World War II and the Battle for Caen, is 25 kilometres away.

Outdoor activities are easily sorted with local horse riding, a couple of kilometres from the site, or with watersports including paddleboarding, sailing and sea kayaking at the nearby Normandy beaches, 10 kilometres away.

You could also spend a day at the Ponds of Planquery fishing pools (15 kilometres), or take the kids to the Festyland amusement park (20 kilometres), themed around the events of 1066 and all that.
