General

  • In the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park
  • A 500-metre stroll from a lake for activities and sunbathing
  • Summer entertainment for all ages

Right in a nature park and an easy 500-metre amble from sunbathing and swimming in a clear blue lake lies Camping Les Chanterelles, a peaceful, placid and family-friendly campsite in the handsomely scenic Auvergne department of Puy-de-Dôme.

Bask by or have dips in the lake or get active among the many outdoor options nearby from here like canoeing, cycling, mountain biking and horse riding; marked walking paths around local town Saint-Rémy-sur-Durolle and a hiking trail in Thiers are also around nearby.

For days lazing around on site, the Chanterelles team arranges activities for all ages in July and August: sports tournaments, games and archery for kids, and disco, film and barbecue nights for adults. The campsite also has a playground, a pétanque court, a mini golf course and a games room with table football and ping pong tables.

The area was great the pitches had places for caravans, caravanettes or tents with electric points are without, was told I could pitch the tent were I wanted but this might be because there was not a lot of people then. The facilities were good hot showers when needed and cleaned daily, toilets were clean. The site was great, quite, a small walk to the lake which was nice to sunbathe or go to a swimming pool which was a small walk again. Overall stayed a short time enjoyed myself had a great time would go again.

    Disliked:

When it says it has a shop it was limited in stock. Most of the goods were products which were not perishable (dry products) you had to order the bread, etc day prior which was a good, I would have though it would be a good idea if you could order milk eggs or have a small amount of each in the shop.

Local attractions

After days lounging around the lake, take a trip to the nearby medieval town of Thiers for strolls among its cobbled streets and a peer at its three main religious buildings, the Church of St Genés, the Gothic church of St-Jean and the Abbey of Saint-Symphorien.

Thiers is also the place f you're in the market for updating your cutlery drawer, as it's a dominant city worldwide for knife production, with about 70% of all knives in France produced here. Cut along to the 'Valley of the Factories' to see the old workshops and factories still standing on the banks of the Durolle, along with the cutlery museum telling the steely tale of the town's industrial history.

The parks, gardens, Vichy Town Opera and Byzantine, Moorish and art deco architecture of the scenic city of Vichy, set on the banks of the Allier, are about 40 kilometres away; within 45 kilometres, have a day trip to the Auvergne region capital Clermont-Ferrand and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the twelfth century Notre-Dame-du-Port.

Music, theatre and dance festivals run in Clermont-Ferrand throughout the year.
