Rock on with river swimming, kayaking, rock climbing and – for the brave – bungee jumping around Camping Au Bord de l'Eau, in the Haute-Loire department of the spectacular Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
This family-friendly place is on the banks of the Loire river, so has plenty of outdoor activities such as river swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking available from its grounds. Around the site, on land and up high, you can go hiking, rock and via ferrata climbing, or bungee jumping from the Recoumène Viaduct at Le Monastier-sur-Gazeille. Rafting along the Loire rapids is also up for grabs for the adrenaline-hungry.
The site is a few minutes from the village of Saint-Martin-de-Fugères and about 30 kilometres from Le Puy-en-Velay. It has a good range of facilities including a pool, a playground, a pétanque court, a TV room and a games room with board games and books.
A snack bar is also on site.

Local attractions
River fishing, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, rock climbing and hiking in the woods are all available nearby.
Traditional French villages are also within easy reach if you prefer a more peaceful vibe: check out Goudet (four kilometres), Alleyrac (six kilometres), Chadron and Salettes (both eight kilometres) and Le Monastier-sur-Gazeille (12 kilometres). From this last, it's eight kilometres to the Cascade de la Beaume, the waterfall between Brignon and Solignac-sur-Loire.
Le Puy-en-Velay 30 kilometres away is well worth a day trip for its famed 10th-century Church of St Michel, the cathedral and its cloisters (a UNESCO World Heritage site), and the Crozatier Museum.
Getting into nature, the Monts d'Ardèche Natural Regional Park and Cévennes National Park are both within 60 kilometres.
