  • Peaceful park in the popular tourist area of Ile du Rhin
  • Leisure centre and recreational activities for active guests
  • Order fresh bread or visit the on-site shop and restaurant

France or Germany? Germany or France? Euro-ditherers can have both with a stay at Camping l'Ile du Rhin in the Ile du Rhin tourist region on the French/German border: that'll be two types of wine and cuisine to try then...

It's all most peaceful here, set over three hectares under shady pines, and between the Rhine and the Grand Canal of Alsace in the village of Biesheim. If you're feeling (a little) active, the leisure centre just 500 metres away has free access and the campsite provides plenty of sport and recreation activities like tennis, volleyball, football, basketball and pétanque. Kids have a playground where activities, entertainment and sports tournaments are held.

The park also has a shop and a restaurant (open evenings only in low season), a launderette and a kitchen area with coffee machine and microwave. Fresh bread is available to order and the nearest supermarkets are six kilometres away.

Great location, campsite has a lot of potential. The staff are pleasant and welcoming.

I hope that the campsite does not close or if it does it is taken over by a company who can make a go of it.

I would stay at the campsite again, but anyone going there should not expect a 5 star site

Campsite feels as though and looks as though it is going out of business!
There is a total lack of maintenance - grass and hedges are uncut, lights do not work, there are few litter bins (none at dishwashing area) and toilet lights do not work.

The uncut grass is home to thousands of insects

The toilets appear to be cleaned early in the morning but could with cleaning again later in the day.

The shop is poorly stocked and expensive.

The site wi fi we were told is 5 euros per hour !

Local attractions

Bring your toughest walking boots and get lost among the Alsatian days, trekking trails, history, rural landscapes and forests of Breisach country; local produce should of course be consumed, Pacmanlike, on the way too.

Once you cross the border to Germany from Camping l'Ile du Rhin, you'll be in the Black Forest, the country's biggest natural park and, say we, one of the finest forests in Europe. Woods, mountains, valleys and lakes are all around, along with mighty scenic villages (said to have inspired the fairytales of the Brothers Grimm), watersports at the Titisee and the Schluchsee, and the many spa resorts of Badenweiler, Bad Herrenalb etc.

Back in Breisach, take a long lazy river cruise for smashing views of the local countryside and its many villages, rent a bike to pedal freely around, try some watersports or dip into the local pool, just 300 metres from base.
