- Luxury glamping overlooking Byron Sound at Hill Cove, West Falkland
- Hill Cove Mountains National Park hikes and beach walks from the site
- Heated and fully furnished pod with sea views through French windows
When you’re after something a bit different, head for The Cove, where the luxurious Boxwood glamping pod awaits… on sparsely populated West Falkland in the Falkland Islands. So if it’s on your bucket list to go elephant seal and Magellanic penguin spotting or to see the Milky Way glittering above on clear nights, you’d better start packing your bags.
Located in a 1.6-acre private paddock, the pod is on the outskirts of the remote and low-key settlement of Hill Cove. It has a large open deck to its front and a sheltered porch giving spectacular views over Byron Sound.
Inside, you get to enjoy those same stunning vistas from floor-to-ceiling windows while cosying up in the warmth and comfort of the all-wood interior. Sumptuous furnishings and modern amenities come together in an open-plan living space with a well-equipped kitchen, where everything is supplied from oven to utensils and a welcome pack to jumpstart your stay.
The cosy bedroom has three beds (one bunk-style) with memory-foam mattresses and the stylish ensuite has a walk-in shower with bags of hot water. All linens and towels are provided.

Local attractions
If you’re visiting over summer (October through to March), you can join four-wheel-drive wildlife tours run by Shelley and Peter, bastions of knowledge about Falkland Islands wildlife and flora. Chances are you may get to see albatrosses, rockhopper and Gentoo penguins, dolphins, whales and elephant seals.
If you’re travelling under your own steam, make a day of it and head for Port Albemarle/Albemarle Settlement (around three hours) to see the abandoned 19th-century sealing station, the massive and distinctive Three Crowns rock formation and – if you’re lucky – the only mainland reindeer herd in the Falklands. Close by is Cape Meredith, the southernmost point of West Falkland, with its storm-battered landmark lighthouse atop dramatic cliffs.
Back at home base, there are beach walks around Byron Sound direct from your cosy pod, or longer hikes amid the tarns and heathland of the surrounding Hill Cove Mountains National Park; it’s something of a birder’s paradise so keep your eyes peeled for snipe and peregrine falcons.
