  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by the Bulgarian countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Veliko Tarnovo; bars and shops nearby
  • Outdoor swimming pool with views for miles; camper’s kitchen
Sublime scenery, yes please… Surrounded by miles of lush, green Bulgarian countryside, Nick and Nicky Kinson’s dog-friendly Camping Veliko Tarnovo isn’t short on views. Prime spots to soak it all in include the outdoor swimming pool, positioned in a garden terrace overlooking miles of farmlands (so, just count the trees and fields while you swim or lay back and close your eyes on a sunlounger). If that doesn’t already sound tempting and relaxing enough, the village of Dragizhevo is a 10-minute walk away from the site and has bars and typical Bulgarian shops. Nick and Nicky also recommend a restaurant serving traditional Bulgarian cuisine, five minutes’ drive away (or a 40-minute walk, you decide). Camping Veliko Tarnovo is east of the village and only a short drive from the A4-E772 road from Veliko Tarnovo to Varna – so very conveniently located. Craving the city too? Veliko Tarnovo is 20 minutes’ drive away and has an old town, plenty of interesting architecture and its own set of bars, restaurants and shops. It’s a nice balance with the site, which embraces the wildlife in the countryside. In the way of facilities, Camping Veliko Tarnovo has a good bunch. This includes a laundry service, a camper’s kitchen and a family bathroom, which the owners say are kept at the standards of a high-quality hotel and a family bathroom, which they say receives much praise for its cleanliness.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked: The owners are very friendly, informative and helpful. The site has great facilities with a clean toilet and shower block, kitchen, laundry and camper service point. We did not use it but they also have a swimming pool which looks lovely and a bar and seating area. The pitches are spacious with water points, electric hook up and drainage on each pitch. We have now stayed here twice and both times were great!

Disliked: Nothing!

Local attractions

‘The city of the Tsars’, Veliko Tarnovo (20 minutes’ drive), is calling… this capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire is on the Yantra river and has an old town and interesting architecture. It’s not the only historic place that’s easy to track down from Camping Veliko Tarnovo, as the Old Roman Bridge (half an hour) and the medieval Tsarevets Fortress (20 minutes) are other old and interesting sites within driving distance. Hunting down waterfalls – what a way to spend your time. There are plenty of falls to occupy you here, so get hiking and track down the Kapinovski waterfall (25 minutes), Hotnitsa Waterfall (35 minutes) and the series of Krushuna Waterfalls (an hour and a half).
