Claim a pitch at Ertlschweigerhaus in Austria’s Donnersbach Valley, and you will be right on track to wake up to views of green slopes blanketed with fields and forests. Its pitches sit at an altitude of 1,000 metres beside a gorgeous traditional restaurant that’s open for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday during the high season. As you might have figured out from the pictures already, this is a fantastically green setting with refreshing mountain air. Fresh water comes from a well, adding to a long list of helpful amenities that have been added since the site opened in 1949: toilets, showers and a washing-up area in the guesthouse, plus mains water, wifi, chemical waste disposal and a service that'll conjure up fresh bread rolls for you on mornings from mid-June to mid-September. Now that the practical details are out of the way, you may be interested to hear that guests at Ertlschweigerhaus can also book into the on-site infrared sauna (at an additional fee) for some thorough rest and relaxation. Elsewhere, a spacious outdoor seating area gives you a good spot to open up your book or set your mind to completing your holiday crosswords. If you’re in the mood for something that involves a bit more movement, head to the table tennis or table football facilities for a friendly game or two. Hiking and cycling trails are easily accessed within the valley; a gorge is within five minutes’ drive of the site, and ski slopes or hiking paths are within 15 minutes. Good news for dog parents: they are welcome on site (… just make sure to pack waste bags to clean up after them).

Local attractions

Better keep track of all the things you want to do from this Donnersbach Valley site. There are just so many: the hiking trail along the dramatic mountain river at Donnersbach Gorge (five minutes’ drive) and, of course, the ski slopes and hikes at higher altitudes… Up at 1,600 metres, Planneralm (15 minutes) will keep you busy no matter the time of year. It has ski slopes and toboggan runs in winter. When the snow vanishes, it turns into a hiking haven with routes for beginners and the more advanced. A visit to Styria’s highest natural apothecary, Latschenbrennerei Planneralm (15 minutes), could also be on the cards. Get your hands on regional specialities or treat yourself to a foot barrel bath with pine there, or head back to Planneralm for an archery session. Elsewhere, Riesneralm (15 minutes) has 32 kilometres of ski slopes, including runs specifically for the kids. In the summertime, take a hike through the traditional alpine dairy farm at Schrabachalm (10 minutes) to admire the scenery and snack on its tasty products.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Changes cannot be made once you have booked.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.

Extras

Motorbike(s) can be brought instead of the car(s) included.

Bookings are nominative and non-transferable.
Quiet hours must be respected between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m..
