  • Friendly and relaxed camping in the Pembrokeshire countryside
  • Five minutes' drive to Llys-y-frĂąn reservoir; 25 to Newgale beach
  • Firepit on site; logs available to purchase; a mile from a station
When opportunities for fab rural breaks come knocking, only a resounding yes will do. And by booking a stay at Knock Farm, you'll be saying yes to a relaxed camping trip on a working smallholding deep in the Pembrokeshire countryside. Set over three acres of wild grasses and spring-flowering trees and with far-reaching views over the Preseli Hills, this small and simple site is located in the grounds of Knock Farm, a 19th-century farmhouse and working smallholding in Wiston. This is a relaxed and rural place to come and stay, but it's easy to get around the local area, as it's just a mile from Clarbeston Road railway station and under half an hour's drive of the coast (the nearest beach is at Newgale, a popular surfing spot about 25 minutes away). On site, there's a firepit where you can gather round the flames and tell stories or cook your dinner; logs are available to buy on site to keep the embers glowing until after dark. For evenings out, there's also a pub about a mile away, and the site is within easy reach of fish and chip shops and takeaways in the surrounding area too. Toilets and showers are provided on site, but otherwise the surroundings have been left refreshingly untouched for that true rural experience.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: A basic site that was perfect, nice clean bathroom, toilet and shower. A very quiet site made it a great stopover on our way back from Fishguard. Not a lot of shops, pubs etc. around the site but if that’s not what you’re after it is perfect, it was perfect for us.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Our stay was fantastic! The hosts were very friendly, very welcoming and showed us exactly where our pitch was. They had dry logs and kindling for the fire pit for us to buy (very very reasonable). We loved the fire pit and sat round it all evening watching the sunset. Shower and facilities were great. Lovely farm and can't wait to return.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: a beautiful farm where the owners are planting loads of trees, a small campsite which was peaceful and clean. Advice and local attraction information were available from owners who were very welcoming and allowed my son to feed the donkeys. Just what we needed to have a comfortable 'off-grid' stay in the country. everywhere we visited was a 20-25 minute drive away, with amazing birds of prey sightings! looking forward to visiting again.

Local attractions

This site is in a great central location for exploring the 186 miles of coastal path on offer in Pembrokeshire, but you could also use it as a launchpad for exploring the county's innumerable castles (like the one in Pembroke, half an hour away to the south) or ancient monuments (such as the Pentre Ifan burial chamber, 25 minutes away to the north). You'll also be within a quick five-minute drive of the lovely Llys-y-frùn reservoir, where scenic rural walks, cycling, water-based activities and a café are up for grabs. Both the northern and western flanks of the Pembrokeshire coastline (and its national park) are within easy driving distance too, so you can take day trips to see the pretty pastel-coloured harbourfront in Fishguard (25 minutes) or spread yourself out on the sand on any one of the beaches around St Brides Bay (35 minutes). If you've got kids to keep entertained, you may like to note that the popular Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (20 minutes) is about 14 miles from base. The outdoor rides and games on offer at Oakwood Theme Park (15 minutes) may prove tempting too (and could be potentially useful as a bribe to keep your little ones on their best behaviour
).
