  • Family-friendly site with easy access to Newgale Beach, Pembrokeshire
  • Haverfordwest 15 minutes’ drive; Tenby 50 minutes
  • On the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; bistro-bar on site
If you would like your Welsh holiday to be punctuated by spectacular sunsets over the sea, now might be the time to book a spot at Newgale Campsite. This family-run (and family-friendly) spot benefits from a privileged location on the western coast of Pembrokeshire. How do you fancy the idea of getting up in the morning, crossing the road, scrambling across a low bank of shingle and being faced by the spectacle of St Brides Bay? It shouldn’t take any more than… oh, about one minute on foot to reach Newgale Beach. The time you save by staying so close to the sea can be invested in your favourite water-based activities, whether wild swimming, surfing or canoeing. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes just by the site; follow it north to reach Porth Mynawyd (a one-hour walk), a remote tidal beach in a deep cove with shallow waters and rockpools, or south to Nolton Haven Beach (55 minutes’ walk). This is a popular spot for surfing, so you might want to drive instead and bring your board (it takes about 10 minutes by car). National Trust - Southwood Estate (five minutes’ drive) is a top place for spotting the local wildlife, from grazing ponies to nesting birds. The nearest pub is right on site: the bistro-bar, named The Landsker Line, dishes out local Pembrokeshire ales, soft drinks and coffee, as well as food like pasties, sausage rolls, loaded fries and ice cream. It's a splendid place to refuel and unwind, especially since it has sports TVs and live music from artists throughout the season. Amenities on site include a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, a launderette and a communal freezer. On weekends in June and the school summer holidays, a catering van serves woodfired pizzas. There are also several restaurants within a five-minute drive of the site, plus plenty more in Haverfordwest (15 minutes).

We're pleased to see you liked the location of our campsite but sorry to see you felt the campsite was lacking in facilities, customer service and cleanliness. Liked Very close to the beach

Disliked No lager in bar onsite which isn't a big problem but no shops within walking distance

From the manager: Hi Sharon,

Thank you for your review. We're pleased you enjoyed our fantastic location so close to Newgale Beach.

We're sorry you were disappointed with the lager availability during your stay. We do stock lager in cans as well as on draught, but on this occasion we sold out of draught lager due to an exceptionally busy period. We appreciate this was frustrating, particularly as there aren't shops within easy walking distance.

We'll certainly take this on board when planning our stock levels for particularly busy periods.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope you'll visit us again in the future.

Best wishes,

Clare and all at Newgale Campsite

Liked The campsite is in a great location just a really short walk to the seafront. Staff is friendly. The bar is also great nice foods and drinks. As the campsite is next to the road you can expect traffic noise during daytime in the evening is no significant traffic there so you can have a good night sleep.
You also hear the sea which is great for us.

Disliked The phone charger is not working properly the phone is charged round 10-15mins but you pay £1 for an hour my phone was charged around 20 mins then stopped. If you can bring your charger.
The facilities are good but needs refurbishment. The shower cost £1 for 10 mins it is plenty of time to shower and fair price but one shower per day should be in the price e.g. you can get a coin per night stay. There is wifi but it is really week and 3rd party solution is being used to log in. it would be better to use more relays to get more stability and give unique pass for customers and use more secure network.

From the manager: Hi Csaba,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and balanced review. We're really pleased you enjoyed our location, the bar and food, and found our staff friendly. We also love that you enjoyed being able to hear the sea from your pitch!

Thank you for your comments regarding the phone charging point. We're sorry this didn't work as expected during your stay and we'll check the unit to make sure it's operating correctly.

We appreciate your feedback on the facilities and Wi-Fi too. We are continually looking at ways to improve these, and your comments are helpful as we plan future upgrades.

Regarding the showers, we're pleased you felt that 10 minutes was plenty of time and that the £1 charge was fair. We use a small charge partly to help keep shower queues to a minimum during our busiest periods, ensuring the facilities remain available for everyone.

Thank you again for your constructive feedback. We hope to welcome you back to Newgale again soon!

Best wishes,

Clare and all at Newgale Campsite.

Local attractions

The smallest city in the UK, St Davids (15 minutes’ drive) has a cathedral that holds a shrine to St David, which was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Just across the River Alun are the imposing ruins of Llys yr Esgob, Tyddewi / St Davids Bishop’s Palace. Also close by is the pretty seaside village of Solva (10 minutes), where you can go crabbing, dine on seafood and see gorgeous local crafts at Solva Woollen Mill. If the kids (or you…) are more into animals, book a relaxed trek at Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (45 minutes) or go riding on the beach at Nolton Haven (10 minutes). Do you like sunrises as much as sunsets? Then get up early and head to Tenby (50 minutes), which has two east-facing sandy beaches on Carmarthen Bay. From Tenby it’s also possible to catch a boat to Caldey Island, where you might buy chocolate or perfume made by the resident monks.
