  • Family-friendly site with easy access to Newgale Beach, Pembrokeshire
  • Haverfordwest 15 minutes’ drive; Tenby 50 minutes
  • On the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; bistro-bar on site
If you would like your Welsh holiday to be punctuated by spectacular sunsets over the sea, now might be the time to book a spot at Newgale Campsite. This family-run (and family-friendly) spot benefits from a privileged location on the western coast of Pembrokeshire. How do you fancy the idea of getting up in the morning, crossing the road, scrambling across a low bank of shingle and being faced by the spectacle of St Brides Bay? It shouldn’t take any more than… oh, about one minute on foot to reach Newgale Beach. The time you save by staying so close to the sea can be invested in your favourite water-based activities, whether wild swimming, surfing or canoeing. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes just by the site; follow it north to reach Porth Mynawyd (a one-hour walk), a remote tidal beach in a deep cove with shallow waters and rockpools, or south to Nolton Haven Beach (55 minutes’ walk). This is a popular spot for surfing, so you might want to drive instead and bring your board (it takes about 10 minutes by car). National Trust - Southwood Estate (five minutes’ drive) is a top place for spotting the local wildlife, from grazing ponies to nesting birds. The nearest pub is right on site: the bistro-bar, named The Landsker Line, dishes out local Pembrokeshire ales, soft drinks and coffee, as well as food like pasties, sausage rolls, loaded fries and ice cream. It's a splendid place to refuel and unwind, especially since it has sports TVs and live music from artists throughout the season. Amenities on site include a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, a launderette and a communal freezer. On weekends in June and the school summer holidays, a catering van serves woodfired pizzas. There are also several restaurants within a five-minute drive of the site, plus plenty more in Haverfordwest (15 minutes).

What customers say

This campsite offers a fantastic beachfront location with stunning views and friendly, helpful staff. Facilities, including showers and toilets, are generally clean and well-maintained, with popular on-site amenities like a bar and pizza van. Some visitors noted the showers incur a small charge. While many enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, a few mentioned it can get busy, and the pebble bank access to the beach is a consideration.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch (water hook-up)

Liked The staff were so friendly and helpful. They told us all about the area and things to do. There is a lovely cafe and bar serving great pizzas which was handy. The site is right next to Newgale beach which is stunning though it was a struggle to get over the high pebble bank to get to the beach.

Disliked The shower block could do with a refurb and you have to pay extra for hot water for the shower which is not great. There is a busy road between the beach and the campsite so it's not a peaceful site though the traffic did ease off during the night

From the manager: Good afternoon,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We’re delighted to hear our team made such a positive impression and that you enjoyed the café, bar, and our location beside Newgale beach.

We appreciate your comments regarding the shower facilities, we have been trying to get planning permission to rebuild the block for over 4 years. In the meantime, the block is well looked after with regular cleaning checks. The system of charging for showers helps manage demand and keep queues to a minimum during busy periods so all guests have fair access. We believe that 20p per 2 minutes is a very reasonable charge and this hasn't been increased in the last 8 years despite the increase in utility charges.

Just to clarify your mention of £38 per night, we charge £12 per person per night. As your review is anonymous, I can't be sure what your booking covered but £38 would cover 3 adults and a dog (or similar) for one night which is highly competitive.

We recognise your concerns about the road and access over the pebble bank. As these are external features, they are unfortunately beyond our control, but we do understand how they can impact the experience, particularly for those with mobility considerations.

We thank you again for your kind words and helpful feedback,

Kind regards,

Clare Harris

Electric grass pitch (medium)

Liked This campsite is very close to the beach. The toilet block was large and very clean.

Disliked There is a very busy road between the campsite and the beach. There is no fencing between the road and the campsite which makes it feel fairly unsecure. The facilities list 'bistro/bar' but it is more of a snack bar, not somewhere you would go for a meal. There is also a derelict building right next to the site which gives an overall shabby feel for the site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Kate,

We’re really pleased to hear that you enjoyed our close proximity to the beach and found the toilet facilities to be spacious and well maintained—our team works hard to keep them to a high standard, so your comments are appreciated.

We understand your concerns regarding the road between the campsite and the beach. As this is a public road, it is unfortunately outside of our control, but we always advise guests to take care when crossing. We appreciate your feedback regarding fencing and will take this into consideration as we continue to review site safety and guest experience.

Regarding the bistro/bar, we’re sorry if this did not meet your expectations. We aim to offer a relaxed, casual food and drink option, and we will review how this is described to ensure it is clear for future guests.

We also acknowledge your comments about the neighbouring building. While this is not part of our property, we understand how it may impact first impressions and appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback—it helps us identify areas where we can improve, and we hope to welcome you back in the future.

Kind regards,

Clare Harris.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch (water hook-up)

Liked Being near the sea
Friendly welcome
Nice cafe on site

Disliked Pitch very near bins and elson point
Picked this site as pictured on the beach.
Reality was great big rocks blocking view and no access to beach ....only if you climbed the rocks!! Not good for us older people. Understand maybe sea defense needed, however maybe pictures and description should say this. Slightly disappointed 😞

From the manager: Hi Paul,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed our seaside location, the friendly welcome, and the café on site.

We’re sorry to hear that aspects of your stay didn’t meet expectations, particularly regarding your pitch location and beach access. We understand how important this is, especially for guests wanting easy access to the shoreline. The ancient, natural coastal defences in place are there to protect the site, but we appreciate that this may not suit everyone, and your comments about making this clearer in our photos and description are noted and will be reviewed.

We’re also sorry that your pitch was not ideally situated, as the site was quiet, we would have happily moved you if you had let us know this whilst on site.

Thank you again for your feedback — it really helps us improve. We do hope you might consider visiting us again in the future.

Kind regards,

Clare Harris

Local attractions

The smallest city in the UK, St Davids (15 minutes’ drive) has a cathedral that holds a shrine to St David, which was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Just across the River Alun are the imposing ruins of Llys yr Esgob, Tyddewi / St Davids Bishop’s Palace. Also close by is the pretty seaside village of Solva (10 minutes), where you can go crabbing, dine on seafood and see gorgeous local crafts at Solva Woollen Mill. If the kids (or you…) are more into animals, book a relaxed trek at Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (45 minutes) or go riding on the beach at Nolton Haven (10 minutes). Do you like sunrises as much as sunsets? Then get up early and head to Tenby (50 minutes), which has two east-facing sandy beaches on Carmarthen Bay. From Tenby it’s also possible to catch a boat to Caldey Island, where you might buy chocolate or perfume made by the resident monks.
