  • Peaceful site in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • A 10-minute drive from Pembroke; 25 minutes from Tenby
  • Firepits and barbecues allowed; dogs and families welcome
'Easy to get to but difficult to leave' is how the folk who own Parke Farm Camping describe the place – have a quick look at a map and the site pics and you'll see exactly where they're coming from. Sandy beaches for swimmers, surfers and coast path ramblers are within a few miles of this pretty Pembrokeshire site – which, by the way, is located within the gorgeous surrounds of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. For town times, historic Pembroke – where there's a railway station, supermarket, pubs and other amenities – is 10 minutes away by car. Those keen on surveying the local seascapes will probably be pleased to know that most of the 186 miles of Pembrokeshire’s coast path are within a similarly accessible distance. Life on site is all quite laidback – families and dogs are welcome (although there's an adults-only area that you can request if you'd prefer a bit of quiet time with your beloved), and there's no problem lighting up firepits and barbecues. Various amenities are on hand to help life run smoothly, including free wifi, a washing-up area, showers and toilets, and there's plenty of space around the place to relax and take in the fresh air. Please note that some sections of the local coast path may be closed when the local MOD firing range is in use. Usually, this is outside of bank holidays, school holidays and weekends, but check online in advance if you want to be sure of access.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: Wonderful campsite - accommodated a family pitch for us and my sisters family. Lovely atmosphere, free tea and coffee station every morning, marshmallows delivered at 7pm every night, clean and recently refurbished facilities and beautifully kept flower beds around the site. Small shop with necessities, ice creams and space to swap ice packs. Fantastic location within 10mins drive of a number of amazing Pembrokeshire beaches. We will definitely be back again.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: There was plenty to like about this site, location was perfect for us to be able to explore Pembrokeshire. The site was great, the pitch sizes were generous and I liked the longer grass that separated the pitches. On site staff were helpful and kept on to of cleaning the facilities. The free tea and coffee in the mornings was a lovely touch too.

Disliked: There was nothing major to dislike, the only thing I would mention is the pitches were all on a slight slant, this meant to sleeping was interesting when I kept sliding down the bed 😂. Although the facilities were kept clean there were only a small number for a large site, this wasn't an issue when we first arrived as there weren't many people however towards the end of our stay the site was much busier.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: Excellent camp site, all the facilities you need and more. Grass pitch areas are cut visible to see your pitch size. Lovely well cut grass area for children to play. Tea and coffee available each morning. Lots of days out around the area, particularly Tenby beach, coastal walks and Pembroke Castle

Disliked: Would have loved to stay longer

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: Really aesthetically laid out pitches that are mown out with wild grass borders. Very well run and the owner and his family put a lot of thought into things such as a giant marshmallow on a stick for everyone which they come round to hand out in the evening and a hot water urn and tea/coffee milk for a cuppa in the mornings by a lovely seating area all included for free. Such a wonderful secluded campsite which is sympathetic to the surroundings but with good facilities also. Pitches are handpicked for your party and kit to make sure it’s the best option and different groups and a bit of cohorting across the fields to create informal family/adult areas which is really considered. Great access to local beaches and the owner has such a wealth of knowledge and so helpful to help you get the best out of your stay in Pembroke.

Disliked: Not really anything to dislike! Only comment for more recycling on site but appreciate not always easy to manage!

Liked: The relaxed and friendly vibe of the site. Charles was really helpful with local recommendations. Very large grass pitches. The sunsets and stars were out of this world. Great shop for basic stuff and we were even given some free local vegetables. All in all one of the best campsites we've ever stayed at.

Disliked: Nothing, it was all fab!

Local attractions

Tenby (25 minutes' drive), a firm favourite for beachgoing folk, is within easy reach, but quieter, lesser-known sands like Broadhaven South beach (10 minutes) should also be on the itinerary – at this latter spot there's ample opportunity for swimming and sunbathing, or for more active times like canoeing and angling. If you can pull yourself away from the coast for a couple of hours, the rewards are rich indeed. Head for freshwater frolics at Bosherston lily ponds (five minutes' drive), a spectacular National Trust-managed stretch of land with dunes, footpaths and pools where otters dwell. While you're likely to see a lot of wildlife while strolling around, spotting more exotic critters might require a trip to Manor House Wildlife Park (20 minutes). Also inland is Lamphey Bishop's Palace (15 minutes), a ruined ecclesiastical mansion where prelates of yore lived in sumptuous surrounds. And as you'll gather while driving around, historic buildings aren't in short supply around here. Also top of the list are Pembroke Castle (10 minutes), where you can admire tall turrets while cruising by in a rowing boat, and Manorbier Castle (25 minutes), a Norman landmark notable for its gardens, dovecote and watermill.
