  • Dog-friendly wild meadow site two miles from Fishguard Lower Town
  • A 30-minute drive from Newgale beach; 15 minutes to Strumble Head
  • Shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés in the town within walking distance
Fishing for a stay where boat trips, paddleboarding and crabbing are within walking distance? Two miles from Fishguard Lower Town, Strumble Camping is a dog-friendly stay close to the seaside – and more specifically, this music-loving Welsh coastal town – as the pier’s just half an hour’s walk away and Lower Town is 10 minutes’ drive away. Here, you’ll be calling a three-acre meadow your new den, and it’s properly positioned away from the crowds. That means country views as your barbecue or breakfast setting and access to a composting toilet and a hot shower (just the thing to wash off any sand from the kayaking and paddleboarding activities in the Lower Town). It’s not just about Fishguard's 18th-century fort, harbour and boat trips though, as this site is in the rather rugged Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and Strumble Head is 15 minutes’ drive away too. With Goodwick village a short drive, cycle or walk away (and Fishguard beyond that, of course), you won’t be without a nice selection of pubs, fish and chip shops, cafés and shops either. Handily, the closest pub is 25 minutes’ walk away, so you'll be well-set to have a pint or two and then return with plenty of time to see off the day with some time by a firepit.

Local attractions

Strumble Head Lighthouse (15 minutes’ drive) is all about the scenery. Whether it’s passing seabirds or the dramatic coastline, the coastal path will take you all around the place, with wildfowl and dolphins often rearing their heads. Inland, Rock View (20 minutes) is another for the ramblers among you, complete with scrambling spots too. You’ll catch an art gallery or two in Porthgain (25 minutes). While the coastal hamlet is small, there’s room enough for a smuggler’s pub and an old slate quarry. Solva (half an hour) is another that's little but mighty, and it's a trove for rockpools and caves, or perhaps a go at canoeing followed by a sandwich from a deli. Surfing’s all the thing at the two-mile-long Newgale beach (half an hour) and watersports continue to take the front seat at Llys-y-fran Resevoir (35 minutes), a lake with watersports hire, mountain bike tracks and archery. Abereiddy's Blue Lagoon (25 minutes) is another place where canoeing's a-go too, but it's also a top spot for guided coasteering activities. Way to the west, it may be St David’s cathedral (half an hour) that reels you in, or perhaps Ramsey Island’s prime wildlife lookout (boat trips go here from St Justinian's, 35 minutes’ drive).

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Beautiful spot. Nice big flat field. Clean Eco compost loos. Felt like I was saving the world everytime I used them. When my battery went flat I called the owner, and even tho he was heading off to Cardiff he came back and happily gave me a jumpstart. No showers but I don’t want or need them.

Disliked The fact I left my lights on in the van!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good views, flat pitch, quiet. Site is as stated basic - 1 shower, 1 compost toilet and 1 water tap.

Disliked No toilet roll, only a small amount of sawdust for the toilet, a sink would be useful for hand washing, washing up, cleaning teeth etc..

Recommend to friends Visit again

Basic, pop up camp site in a beautiful spot.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Hot shower, beautiful views, peaceful location. Toilet is a basic composting set up but loved the quirky nature of the facilities. They were clean on our arrival with a good supply of loo roll and sawdust.

Disliked Nothing
