Turning area and pitches

  • Peaceful adults-only Pembrokeshire site for self-contained tourers
  • A 20-minute drive to Cardigan or Narberth; edging the Preseli Hills
  • Dog-friendly pitches; easy access from the A487 a mile from Crymych
These are some particularly peaceful Pembrokeshire pitches – Gwelfryn is a place that has a good amount of space but only allows a handful of guests on site, to make sure it always stays uncrowded and has plenty of room for everyone to relax. That quiet atmosphere is preserved by keeping this touring site for adults only; dogs are welcome though, and there’s a fully enclosed field available where they can run about freely and safely. Facilities are also limited, to maintain that almost-wild vibe – you’ll have access to a chemical disposal point and firepits for your evening campfire, but that’s pretty much your lot (please note, no toilets or showers on site so you’ll need to be self contained). Sitting on the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and with open countryside all around, you can be sure of gorgeous views as a backdrop to your morning coffees and sunset drinks. But despite the remote rural feeling, it’s actually pretty well connected – access to the site is easy from the A478, just a couple of minutes’ drive from Crymych (which has a pub, a couple of convenience stores and a leisure centre). Staying here puts you within easy reach of a good range of Pembrokeshire activities – from walking in the Preseli Hills and visiting ancient landmarks to beach days and boat trips over at the coast. Cardigan and Narberth are both about 20 minutes away for some great indie shops and dining.

Local attractions

The nearby Preseli Hills have some gorgeous trails for walkers, with Foel Cwmcerwyn (35 minutes’ drive) the highest point and Llys-y-fran Reservoir (25 minutes) a popular spot for a walk followed by a dip or some time paddling on the lake (kit hire is available there). You’ll want to look out for wildlife as you roam – and maybe some of the area’s ancient sights too. Places like Bedd Arthur (10 minutes), Foel Drygarn Hill Fort (10 minutes) and Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber (20 minutes) are all worth seeking out for a glimpse into the past. For something a bit different, pay a visit to the Cilwendeg Shell House Hermitage (10 minutes) or head to Cenarth (20 minutes) to see the waterfalls and National Coracle Centre. The Pembrokeshire coast has heaps to offer as well, whether you fancy a long walk on the coast path, a dolphin-spotting boat trip from New Quay (45 minutes) or a beach picnic at the likes of Parrog Sands (25 minutes) or Mwnt (half an hour).
