  • Glamping site a five-minute walk from sandy Tenby South beach
  • Tenby town five minutes’ drive; Oakwood Theme Park 20 minutes
  • Cosy huts with kitchens and private deck, plus views of the coast
Coast walks and beach swims by day, cosy huts by night… that's the fine setup at Tenby Shepherd's Huts, a well-maintained family-run site on the outskirts of Tenby and with lovely views out over the west Wales coast. It's just the spot for a glamping holiday in a chilled-out seaside spot – Tenby South beach is about five minutes' walk away and the centre of town a half-hour stroll (or five-minute drive). The cosy, self-contained shepherd’s huts come with a fridge, sink, an oven and most kitchen facilities to prepare simple meals, which you can then consume on your private decked area with views across the site. If you really miss having dinner in front of your favourite show, there is also a TV. Bedding is provided, as are a barbecue, outdoor table and chairs. This is a place where you can reconnect to a simpler life, taking in the spectacle of the starry night sky or by falling asleep to the sound of owls hooting. That said, it's also a great base for all sorts of days out, from theme parks to boat trips. A beach stroll is a good idea too, of course – and it's a popular spot for paddleboarders taking to the water. For longer walks, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes by as well. You can get provisions from a farm shop a five-minute drive away, or there are plenty of places to eat in and around the village of Penally (a 10-minute walk) and in Tenby.

Dune shepherd's hut

Liked: Location. Friendly staff

Disliked: Hut wasn’t cleaned or beds changed upon arrival at 16:45. Cleaned very quickly when team arrived. Only stayed 1 of the 2 nights as got covered in bites. Tele didn’t work. Gas hob wouldn’t light. Dated and damaged throughout. Wasn’t provided with WiFi codes.

Coral shepherd's hut

Liked: Personally we loved the place, just me and my 2 lads (10 & 12), staff was friendly, we loved the hut, nice veiw, was clean, nice quiet relaxed site and in an amazing place, we only had a 2 night stay but we went to Pembroke Castle before checking in (only 20 min away) walked to the beach (took about 10 min) after check in, visited ritec Valley quads in the morning (about 20 min away) went to heatherton park after that, had a nice explore around the lovely town and nipped into tenby then went to oakwood the following morning (just 20 min away) the huts are small but cute, we loved it, toilet and hot shower facilities right next to us, we took our own optigrill and cooked on the decking, given the location and facilities it's fairly priced and a lot of fun, beats dealing with the rigmarole of carting around and setting up tents for camping, a lot comfier and a damm sight cheaper than renting a caravan especially given the location, will hopefully return for another adventure soon 👍🏼

Disliked: Going home, wish I was still there, the drive back was beautiful lots of scenery and twisty roads but over 4 hours driving after a day in a theme park takes it out of you 🤣

Cove shepherd's hut

Liked: Location on the campsite is brilliant, lovely views and situated right next to a small toilet / shower block which were kept clean. The outside space was lovely and the bbq was a great addition.

Disliked: Overpriced for what you get and the standards inside of the hut, it’s definitely too small for 5 people to sleep in, not enough space for storage and everything could do with a bit of TLC considering the price per night. Uncomfortable bed, oven didn’t work, no hot water, sink is not drinking water and curtains were very thin and dirty.

Coral shepherd's hut

Liked: Location to Tenby.

Disliked: Terrible oven, I think my lighter produced more heat.

Tea towel stank of damp and I’m not even sure the bed sheets were all that clean. No washing up equipment provided (washing up liquid, dish cloth).
My daughter woke up in the morning covered in bites, which may have come from her bed.

Pearl shepherd's hut

Liked: Really quaint, loved the fact it was lilac. The little touch of milk in fridge and a packet of Welsh cakes on arrival was fab.

Disliked: The supplied bedding. Poor quality but was clean. 👍🏼. Will bring own next time .

Pearl shepherd's hut

Liked: Nice idea and good layout, nice site and location

Disliked: Shepherds hut was not clean on arrival, appeared as though previous residents may have cleaned but the site had not checked. Bedding provided had a lot of pet hairs and hairs on, general musty smell in cabin, the pots and pans had charred food in, the water container supplying the hut had no water in and was black inside, one window was broken - not an issue but this would've been ideal to let us know about. Other than cleanliness it was a lovely stay.

From the manager: Dear Hannah, Thank you for your review, we unfortunately found out that our housekeeper/cleaner wasn't cleaning the Shepherds Huts thoroughly (after some investigations into complaints) and therefore now no longer with us. We will have a brand new team for 2024 and would like to apologise that this affected your stay last year with us. We hope that you would consider another stay in 2024 and would love to welcome you back.

Coral shepherd's hut

Liked: Lovely quiet campsite
Well maintained

Disliked: Unfortunately this time we were disappointed with our stay
When we arrived, there was no one in reception, phoned the numbers that I had on my booking confirmation, several times and did not receive an answer, as we had been before, we made our way to the shepherd's hut, we were going to wait there, and try to contact the reception. But we found the Key had been left in the door, so we let ourselves in, we were not sure if it was ready for us, the sofa/double bed area was covered in dust, it really could have done with being vacuumed, it was obvious to see that is wasn't clean, there wasn't enough bedding (there was a sheet and duvet cover missing, phoned the emergency number on the information clip board that was in the hut, a lady supplied us with extra bedding), I had phoned up a few days beforehand to say that there would be one more person joining us on our holiday and no codes for the WiFi left in our hut like last time.
We didn't feel this hut was as well kitted out as well as the last one, I know it's silly but if you provide washing up liquid, there should be enough to last your stay, the frying pan was too small to cater for 4 people, it was the same size as the one I use at home, we call it the egg pan as its only purpose is to fry an egg.
We didn't use the BBQ as it hadn't been cleaned, if was still full of charcoal and the grill was still covered in bits of food.

I don't feel the hut had been cleaned before we arrived, the complimentary gifts had been added ( tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a couple of bottles of locally brewed beers) along with the tea towel, disposable cloth and washing up sponge.

I'm not sure if we'd stay again
Which is a shame, as we absolutely loved our first stay here, that is why we returned

Pearl shepherd's hut

Liked: Lovely site, well situated with a short walk to the beach & then only a couple of miles into Tenby easy walking.

The shepherd hut was well equipped with thoughtful extras (couple of local beers, charcoal for the bbq). It was cosy for our bigger kids but perfect for a long weekend. Much preferable to camping as we had a wet bank hol!

The site gave us 4 tokens for the wifi which was very much appreciated by my teen and tween.

Disliked: The hut was not spotlessly clean with old food in the drain in the sink, and crockery put away still wet.

We struggled to make contact in person with reception when needed but email was responded to very quickly.

Local attractions

There should be something for the whole family at Heatherton World of Activities theme park (five minutes’ drive) – not to mention something for any type of weather, with both outdoor and indoor amusements. You can challenge each other in a go-kart race, work together to solve the puzzles in the escape rooms or explore the tree-top trail and its ziplines. With its mix of gentle, child-friendly amusements and high-octane thrill rides, Oakwood Theme Park (20 minutes) should also keep everybody happy. Adrenaline junkies might make a beeline for the gigantic wooden Megafobia roller coaster or the sky swing, but there are also a downhill bobsleigh and water rides, plus a boating lake. Caldey Island can be reached in about half an hour (the time to drive to Tenby, plus the boat crossing). Once on this monastic island, you can relax on the sandy beach facing Priory Bay or hike to the lighthouse, keeping an eye out for red squirrels, puffins, Soay sheep and butterflies.
