Penally Court Farm… a clifftop cracker. Sandy beaches, castles, coastal walks with spectacular views, colourful harbour towns – Pembrokeshire needs little introduction. But this little bit of it, in Penally just above Tenby, deserves more than simply introducing: ideally via fanfares, fireworks, a parade… But none of the above is needed on this peaceful family-run site. In lush green fields on the cliffs overlooking Tenby, it concentrates on simple, well-maintained facilities that don’t get in between you and the surrounds. You can park up where you stay, cook up alfresco feasts on barbecues, or take a three-minute stroll to a pub with grub in Penally. The village also has a shop for stocking up on basics; bigger stores and supermarkets are under 10 minutes' drive away in Tenby. Not that you’d only visit Tenby for baby wipes and beef burgers – it’s a handsome harbour town with pastel-hued houses, a castle, a fort (on an island) and lots of spots for eats and treats. And a cluster of beaches. The 20-minute walk into town is a terrific way to introduce yourselves to the area, or you could just run into the sea (five minutes’ walk from the site).

Liked: The campsite was clean and well-maintained, just a short walk from the beach. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Not a dislike but I would’ve like to have a coffee shop on the campsite or within walking distance. There was a van on the Sunday with breakfast and coffees which was a bliss.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Handy for two pubs with a 10 minute walk to Tenby’s south beach. The beach is perfect, with a slow pace splashing in the water 30 minutes to Tenby.
There is a bus stop and train station just outside the site.
Water available close to your pitch.

Disliked: No information leaflets for all the obvious information you’ll need (if they
have them they weren’t offered!)
The road that runs along the lower section of the site is noisy, we will stay upside next time.
There is a slope at the site that required breeze blocks to allow the rear stabilisers to reach the ground .

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Location

Disliked: Staff - rude and appear to have an issue with anyone that books via Pitch Up which was made clear through his rant about them losing out on money by anyone that books this way. Could only use the one night of our three night booking due to a very poorly pet. We asked for confirmation that we haven’t used the final two nights as we can claim this back on our pet insurance however they refuse to provide this despite it not being at any cost to them. Tried calling and emailing in advance as soon as we knew we couldn’t stay the full period which they ignored.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: First appearance was tidy site

Disliked: On arrival advised manager we had booking for 2 nights- drew breath and said who did you book with ? Genuinely thought they didn’t have our booking- proceeded to explain in great length how pitched up bookings cost them money and people cancelled!!! Made me feel very uncomfortable and terrible first impression.
Had to say well we are here now to break his tirade.
Shown to pitch . Asked re toilet block and told they are everywhere. Avoid the old one as showers are on timer - use the new one.
See photos of new one !! Dirty , basic and poor ventilation.
No instructions of where facilities were . Tar all over floor at washing up sinks where kids had walked on sleepers which were seeping.
So disappointed we didn’t stay for second night but continued our trip around wales onto our next site who accommodated us.
Avoid if wanting to book via pitched up !!!! Not worth the explanation of how much they lose out to it. Shame as this site was recommended in the touring wales camping guide book.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: This site was great particularly as the weather was excellent so we were able to take full advantage of the lovely walks. Great access to Tenby by bus, train and walking. Sites are tricky some are very steep. We were able to move after 2 days to a flatter site and we have a self levelling system. Our first site was too much for them and others without ramps left early. The facilities need some attention the showers were hot and there was plenty of room. However the shower hoses leaked and the cleaning was a little hit and miss.

Otherwise plenty of walks staff great view's and locality was excellent. Small pub 100yrds away which served food when they had staff.

Disliked: Wouldn't be great if weather was wet or cold as little to see and do other than walking and beach but that's the risk you take with touring.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: A beautiful site in a lovely location, great views of the sea and a beautiful sunset to finish the day off. The pitches are spacious and kept tidy. The showers are hot with plenty of water pressure.

Disliked: Although the showers are hot and clean, they are quite old and look a bit tired.

Local attractions

Tenby is a port of call for people wanting more than a paddle on the sea: boat trips will take you round the cliffs or out to spot the seals (pick a sunset cruise for marriage proposals, or just to be romantic) and to visit Caldey Island, a rocky nugget of peace, nature and history offshore where monks have been living since the sixth century (not the same ones, of course). To hit the beach, popular Saundersfoot and Pendine are 15 and 30 minutes' drive away, while surfers head for the big waves at Broad Haven and Newgale (40 and 50 minutes). The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is 186 miles long, but don’t feel you have to do it in a day; marked trails along the cliffs give you cracking views and plenty of opps for nature spotting everywhere you go. (A popular short stretch is the eight-miler from Tenby to the castle at Manorbier – and the pub.) Also in the area, Heatherton World of Activities (10 minutes) gets you zipping through the trees, climbing ropes and driving go-karts; Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour) has rides to thrill and spill your drinks over, and at Folly Farm (20 minutes), you can combine a traditional fairground jolly with meeting farm animals and exotic beasts.
