  • Peaceful rural site a 15-minute walk from the village pub
  • Half an hour from the beaches of the south and west coasts
  • Firepit hire available on site, with wood and kindling to buy
Fancy a spot of rural relaxation a short walk from the village pub and with easy access to the famed Welsh castles and coastline? Then take a break at Y Bwthyn, a peaceful place surrounded by farmland and a 15-minute trot from the pub in Llandissilio. Energetic small fry (and accompanying canines) can romp about with impunity at this spacious site, and there’s plenty of stuff nearby to fuel holiday smiles too. Perhaps they’d like to play at being knights at Laugharne Castle or build sandcastles on Saundersfoot beach? Both are within a half-hour drive. Guests are welcome to set up their own barbecue or campfire for warm alfresco soirées (sensible locations away from the pitches only please, peeps) and individual firepits, wood and kindling are available to request on arrival for an extra charge. All the basics are provided for a comfy stay: the toilet and shower block is sited on the accommodation field, and has separate facilities for ladies and gents.

10-amp electric grass pitch

Liked Was great price at just £25 per night in very nice location stuff in driveable distance to see Pembrokeshire coast. Couple who owned the site and run it was lovely, they also have firepits on site you can use and they give you wood for just £5 (kindling and logs) we had trouble lighting it as was very windy but they came across with some fire starters and helped us out ! We also had dog and lady was very nice with him. All facilities as clean as you would except for campsite everything in working and good order !

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a lovely review. Absolutely love the dog. Adorable! Hope that you can return again soon, hopefully with some better weather this time. Thanks again.

Preseli camping pod

Liked We had a fantastic weekend here in May while we were visiting to see puffins at Skomer island. We were met by the hosts on arrival and told where everything was. They were so friendly, stopped for a chat and were great with our kids. Glamping pods are perfect and convenient and warm for what you need from one. Clean site. Great price. Would absolutely recommend and im sure well return. We also left our son's onesie behind and they were happy to post it to us which was really kind of them ❤️

Disliked Be careful of the snails lol they come out at night :P but thats what you expect when youre somewhere rural!

Liked Spacious pitches, friendly hosts. Shower hot, but cold facilities.

Disliked We wouldn't stay here at peak times due to minimal toilet and shower facilities.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review and thoughts. We are well within the national guidelines for shower and toilet facilities as we also have a family room available for those with younger children (3 showers and toilets for men and 3 showers and 4 toilets for women) Also, we only allow campers around the outside edge of the field, so never have too many on site. Thanks again

Derwen camping pod

Liked Peaceful area, well kept grounds, lovely little pod, fresh bedding and friendly hosts

Disliked Not a dislike but a little internal storage in the pod would be beneficial and hand towels in the toilet would be great, had to use toilet paper to dry hands. Neither of which effected our enjoyable stay

Local attractions

Half an hour’s drive takes you down to the beaches of the south coast, including the sandy stretches at Saundersfoot and Tenby, from where you can also take a boat trip out of the harbour to try your luck spotting the local seals. Active types can pick up the Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Tenby to take a ramble along part of its 186-mile length in search of cliffs, coves and castles; a popular stretch is the eight-mile section from Tenby to Manorbier Castle. Those who’d rather take to the sea can hire motorboats, kayaks and jetskis in Tenby, or have a go at waterskiing or wakeboarding. Surfing types can head west to Newgale, just over half an hour away and a well known fave for boarders. There’s always a castle nearby in this part of Wales, and at Y Bwthyn your nearest examples are Picton Castle, 20 minutes away, and Laugharne Castle, half an hour’s drive away. Picton looks like a classic castle from the outside, but has been restored inside as a smart stately home – a rather fab mash-up of styles. Leave time to walk through the woods and visit the Secret Owl Garden, too. Laugharne, in contrast, is an atmospheric ruin that overlooks the Taf estuary and provides some imagination-firing glimpses into 12th-century life.
