  • Peaceful eco-friendly site in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • Within three miles of St Davids and Solva; 4.5 to Whitesands beach
  • Firepits and picnic tables provided, plus covered social/games area
How’s this for a prime Pembrokeshire position – only three miles from St Davids and Solva... within 10 minutes' drive at most the top-notch surf at Whitesands Bay, Abereiddy’s Blue Lagoon and coast path rambles… and half an hour's drive from big-town amenities in Fishguard and Haverfordwest. Plonked pretty centrally on the St Davids peninsula and within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Spring Meadow Farm Campsite is in a splendid location for folk seeking to spend their days lapping up views of coast and countryside, and/or sign up for active times surfing, coasteering, horse riding, hiking or setting sail in search of the wild beasts of the sea. The folk at this little eco site suggest that all guests get stuck into as many of these options as possible, while they focus on keeping facilities sorted for post-outing relaxing and recovery time. The place is set back from the road and sheltered by willow trees to keep a peaceful rural vibe humming throughout, and there are firepits and picnic tables provided for comfy alfresco evenings. Lots of little details have been sorted here too – the main facilities block holds not only showers and toilets but also a fridge-freezer, a washing-up sink, a washing machine and a hairdryer (most handy for dealing with post-surf hair). The one thing they can’t sort is the weather, so instead they’ve converted one of their polytunnels into a warm social space where guests can gather to eat, chat, play table tennis or do jigsaws – or dry their togs if they’ve been caught in a downpour.

Local attractions

Well, it’s got to be straight out to the coast, no? Take your surfboard or your bucket and spade to the beach at Whitesands Bay (10 minutes’ drive), seek out more big waves at Newgale (15 minutes) or continue on to Nolton Haven (20 minutes) to canter along the coast on horseback. Coasteering, climbing and watersports can all be sorted at activity centres in St Davids (5 minutes). While in St Davids, take a stroll around the 12th-century cathedral and Bishop’s Palace, then sign up for wildlife-spotting boat trips to see the seals, dolphins and puffins that hang out around these parts. Elsewhere along the coast, the little harbour at Solva and the gorgeous Abereiddy Blue Lagoon are both 10 minutes’ drive away. Heading a little further afield, the castles at Pembroke, Carew and Cardigan are all within a 50-minute drive, as is Castell Henllys neolithic burial site. If you’ve decreed the sea to be too nippy for swims, make for the warmer environs of the Blue Lagoon waterpark (40 minutes), or take a tasty tour at the Wickedly Welsh chocolate factory (half an hour).
