  • Pembrokeshire dog-friendly family farm site two miles from the beach
  • A five-minute drive to Amroth beach; 10 minutes to Saundersfoot beach
  • Pub and restaurants within walking distance; views of Tenby and Caldey
Making your way to Pembrokeshire for its castles, sandy coast or family-friendly theme parks? Simply Camping Pembrokeshire is a dog-friendly family farm site two miles from the coast, where your neighbours will be of the animal kind, including sheep and Wagyu cattle. So settle in on the large field and start by making your way to Amroth beach, five minutes’ drive away and a rather nice spot to try out your canoeing, sea angling or sailing skills. Back at base, you can also buy breakfast rolls and tea most mornings. You may want to sit back with your cuppa and admire the sea in the distance – the site has views over Tenby and Caldey and, of course, all the rural scenery you’d expect from the surroundings of a farm. When you’re ready to tend to your tummy some more, the local pub and restaurant are within walking distance. There are more restaurants, cafés and pubs within five minutes’ drive of the site, including several right beside the sea (sea views as a side dish, anyone?) Facilities on the site are fairly basic and include toilets, a shower and access to mains water. The pitches are in a large field, but there’s a separate field for kids to safely let off steam.

Liked: Absolutely nothing

Disliked: Where to start. May as well have gone to Glastonbury the amount of mud. Other people on the site thought it was acceptable to let their kids piss and shit all over the crappy portaloo. Shower was disgusting. Had booked for 7 nights, left after 2. Rubbish everywhere. It's clear that the owner has no interest in this side of his business.

Liked: If your looking for a nice peaceful retreat then this is the place to go. Facilities are humble but also adequate. This is a farm camp and the owners are lovely accommodating people that are on hand if you need them. Toilets are cleaned regularly and the shower block also transforms into a sauna. Rural views towards the coastline and light pollution is low if you want to go stargazing. Plenty of space for your young ones to let off steam and plenty of room if you want a quiet secluded spot especially for hikers wanting to rest a night. If you like fishing there is a lovely beach at Wisemans Beach just a short drive away with Free Parking and a pub too. This is also a dog friendly beach and one of the few which allow dogs all year long. Plus there's a pub if you or your dog need refreshment after your long walk. We will be back again

Liked: Nice open field and owner seemed nice.

Disliked: Only small parts of the grass was cut but not recently cut.. the man came to collect money and then he didn't return with our £6 change and we didn't see him again for the rest of the weekend. Toilet there but empty bleach bottles which could have been full to allow people to clean after themselves and also the shower room was a bit muddy and had grass in there which could have had things there for people to clean after themselves.

Liked: It was quiet and cheap.

Disliked: Very poor facilities, which we couldn't bring ourselves to use. The grass was very long and the field was full of slugs. There was nothing nearby, you have to drive everywhere.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Second time I've stayed here and again absolutely brilliant, had a really good time. Fresh milk from the farm minutes walk down the lane. Minutes walk from a pub, about 15 minutes walk from the beach, about 15 minute drive from tenby. 20 minutes to folly farm, 25 minutes to oakwood. In my opinion perfect location. And as its simple camping the kids can't use there technology devices so you get to do things as a family. The host can't do enough, very friendly and extremely helpful. Definitely coming back.

Disliked: Packing up to go home.

Local attractions

There are activities in all directions here. To begin with, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo is only five minutes’ drive and a great bet for entertaining the kids with rides and animals. Similarly, Heatherton World of Activities (10 minutes) runs outdoor activities from treetop ropes course to go-karting and paintballing. If that puts you in the competitive spirit, you might want to dabble in some group watersports. Canoeing, sea angling and sailing are some of the options at Amroth beach (five minutes' drive), and there are more watersports at Saundersfoot (10 minutes), a small seaside resort with a sandy beach. Can’t get enough of the coastline? Tenby (15 minutes) is another treat – think boat trips, a sandy beach and a scenic seafront. You might spot some wildlife while out on the waves, but it’s guaranteed at Manor Wildlife Park (10 minutes). The walking safari visits animals like tigers, meerkats and emus. Bats live at Carew Castle & Tidal Mill (15 minutes), and ghosts too, if the tales are to be believed.
