Garn Isaf’s ’Garn Gwely’ offers spacious pitches which include campfire pits and picnic tables. It is surrounded by traditional earth banks which encourage wildlife to visit. At night, the sky is caressed by the loom of the Strumble Head lighthouse. Garn Gwely Campsite is set on the small holding of Garn Isaf, Abercastle. It sits in a picturesque location just 5 minutes walk from the tiny fishing harbour and beaches of Abercastle and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. It is in the heart of Pembrokeshire National Park, Wales, the only coastal National Park in the United Kingdom and close to St Davids. It has extremely large individual pitches surrounded by traditional Pembrokeshire banks, each one with its own picnic table and camp fire, where you can spend the evening exchanging stories, singing and playing instruments, melting marshmallows, cooking stick bread or some delicious local catch of mackerel, crab or lobster. Garn Gwely is surrounded by stunning scenery and a plethora of wildlife habitats. It is dog friendly site and dogs are very welcome, but must be kept under control. We have a 14 pitch site, each with its own picnic table and fire pit. We can only have 5 in total Caravans and / or Camper Vans so please book early to ensure you can have a pitch. We have never gone up to 14 pitches, often we will only take a maximum of 11 or 12 pitches during the school holidays on the site to ensure we keep that lovely feeling of a small, quiet and relaxed campsite. We also have electric hook-ups on the campsite. We ask guests to arrive after 4pm and on departure days, leave by 10am in order that ground maintenance can be undertaken.

Route directions

The small holding where Garn Gwely Campsite is oncan be found on the North Pembrokeshire OS Map, just outside Abercastle you will see us, Garn Isaf. It is important that you enter the correct entrance into the Campsite especially if you are towing a caravan or trailer as you will not be able to turn around. So if coming through the next village inland called Mathry we are just before the sign for Abercastle. On leaving Mathry keep the pink roofed cottage on your left, next on the left will be Treflyn Farm, then on the right hand side is a very modern home with single pitched roofs called Pen Y Garn. Start slowing down as we are next on the right and you need to enter into the Campsite itself. So we are the 3rd field gate after ther modern new build, the last 2 are next to each other with a hedgebank in between and it’s the 2nd of these that is set back into the field. It has a buoy and the sign Garn Gwely Campsite on the gate. It should be closed so you will have to get out to open the gate. If coming from the coast road from St Davids or Abereiddy to need to drive into Abercastle and come back out the other side as though heading for Mathry. The sign for Abercastle as you come out of it will be on the right and the next property on the left is Garn Isaf. Please do not drive into the courtyard, go passed the entrance, up the hill, passed the entrance directly behind Y Garn the self catering cottage and the next field gate that is set back is the entrance for Garn Gwely Campsite. It has a buoy and small Garn Gwely Campsite sign on the gate, it should be closed so you will need to open it to come into the campsite.
