General

  • Small family-run fishery and site in the Welsh countryside
  • Two coarse lakes with rainbow, blue and brown trout
  • Two coarse lakes with carp up to 40lb

Fron Farm Fishery is a small family-run fishery and campsite between Bontnewydd and Bronant in the spectacular Welsh countryside, in a peaceful place for relaxing family stays.

The site is in a wildlife haven surrounded by hedgerows and nature including red kites overhead and dragonflies skimming over the lakes. Excellent fishing is available on site, but the area is also popular for walking, cycling or exploring the countryside by car.

This is a small campsite, with a small shower block and washing-up facilities, but with lots of room to play and relax. The local shop and pub are in Bronant which is a mile and a half away.

There are four large lakes on site, ranging from one to two and a half acres in size. They include two naturally spring fed trout lakes are abundant with fish and are replenished regularly with rainbow, blue and native brown trout. In the two coarse lakes are a variety of smaller coarse fish and carp up to 40lb: although the carp in the 20lb range are caught regularly, the 40lb carp is older and wiser so does not get caught easily... come and try your luck.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Facilities/activities including fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Beautiful location, great fishing enjoyed by my husband and daughter. The site owners were very friendly and helpful. The shower facilities were also good. The site was well looked after and very tidy. Lovely location to also take the dog as the beach was not too far away. I was also pleased to see there were dog waste bins dotted around. We had a lovely time and would defiantly revisit.

    Disliked:

The only negative I have, would be that my son was probably a too young to stay at the site, due to being close to the water

Everywhere was very clean, owners were lovely and accommodating and they just leave you to it and the views, absolutely phenomenal! Just a 25 minute drive into Aberystwyth. Lots of places to walk and take in the views! At just £10 a night, this was a PERFECT get away for a couple of nights - I would highly recommend!

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike about this place in all honesty!
Just the midges/nats but with the site having ponds and fields galore, it has to be expected, I just wish I was more prepared.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely comments, avon so soft spray ideal for midges

Very quiet and relaxing place to stay. Lovely clean facilities, a very nice couple running the site.
Families having BBQs (we were even invited to join in by some), children playing, people fishing.
A very nice mix of tents, caravans, and motorhomes.
Lovely rural location, yet quite close to the seaside.

    Disliked:

I found nothing to dislike about this location, please be aware that although TV reception is good, there appears to be no phone signal, I consider this a bonus, others may not of course.

From the manager...

We are glad you enjoyed yourself, its a lovely place to mix with others, the photos are lovely

I was looking for something out of the way, tranquil and relaxing. This place ticked all boxes. The tent pitches are on a hill top and somewhat exposed. To be fair, I was made aware of this when I arrived, so I just made sure the tent was lashed down properly, so no dramas there. Don't be put off by the slightly shabby exterior of the toilet block. It's an old shipping container which has been divided into three wash rooms.as soon as you walk through the door, you find yourself in an extremely well presented, well equipped and spotlessly clean facility, complete with electric shower, w/c and had basin. I've stayed in hotels that would envy them. Having electric showers means no shortage of hot water. The tent pitches themselves have been carved out of the gently sloping landscape to form very spacious terraces that are flat and level and are capable of accomodating quite large units. As I've said it is a little exposed, but the plus side of this is the view is spectacular. Somewhere along the grand canyon in USA there is a vantages point and next to it is a sign that says "If you can't think of something smart to say, shut the hell up!" (or words to that effect!). This view warrants something similar!

For the fishing fraternity, I can only speak for the fly fishing lakes, although I would describe them as ponds. In fairness I tend to fish on reservoirs like Grafham and Rutland, so I felt that with a double haul and a favourable wind I could very nearly hit the opposite bank!. One pond has more than its fair share of back cast grabbing trees and shrubbery and many locations it would be strictly roll cast only. Having said that the waters were well stocked with hard fighting healthy trout that made good eating and some challenging fishing.
I'm not one to visit places twice, I like to explore. But if I was a mind to re visit, then this is the place.

Thank you for your lovely description, we are a small site but as you say the views are lovely, the lakes are small but we think this is to an advantage, we try and keep everything natural as we can, we look forward to seeing you again.

Local attractions

When you're ready to explore all that Ceredigion and Cardigan Bay have to offer, the site is just six miles from Tregaron and the beach at Llanrhystud, and only 12 miles from Aberystwyth.

Visit the historic market town of Tregaron, home of the Welsh Gold Centre and its still busy market. The area is a popular destination for walkers with natural beauty all around and the Cors Caron Nature Reserve has over 170 species of birds for birdspotting opportunities: see if you can spot the famous red kite in flight.

You can also take in the sites of Aberystwyth a short drive away with its thirteenth century castle ruins, busy harbour and seafront.

Aberystwyth, Lampeter and Aberaeron are only half an hour away. Aberystwyth is a seaside and university town with an abundance of local stores, as well as the cliff railway. It's also the start of the Rheidol Railway to Devils Bridge and has a well-known art centre and the National Library of Wales.

Aberaeron is an old village with harbour and beach, and local craft shops. Lampeter is also a small town, with a university and a good range of shops. If you want to explore further afield, try New Quay, Cardigan and Carmarthen.

There are local golf courses, cycle routes and horse riding all within half an hour's drive.
