Fron Farm Fishery: View of the grass pitches

General

  • Small family-run fishery and site in scenic west Wales countryside
  • A five-minute drive to Bronant village and 15 to Tregaron market town
  • Two coarse fishing lakes and two fly fishing lakes

The owners of family-run Fron Farm Fishery reckon you need to be lucky to catch the crafty 40-pound carp that lives in one of its four large lakes… So if you think you have what it takes to reel him in, book a stay at this site in spectacular west Wales countryside a 20-minute drive from the Ceredigion coast.

As you might have guessed from the name, this park is ace for anglers: its bodies of water range from an acre in size up to two and a half, and include a couple of naturally spring-fed lakes replenished regularly with rainbow, blue and native brown trout. Also on the grounds are two other coarse lakes filled with smaller fish as well as carp (including that elusive 40-pounder…).

This peaceful and family-friendly park’s a first-rate spot for getting up close with other animals as well – it’s in a wildlife haven surrounded by hedgerows, with red kites often flying overhead and dragonflies skimming over the ponds. There’s ample room all around for impromptu games of cricket, and lots of trails in the lush local countryside mean even more green space to explore whether on walks or cycle rides.

Also at the park is a small shower block (heated to guard against chilly toes), and washing-up facilities are on hand too. The nearest pub in the village of Bronant, about a five-minute drive away. Please note that the ground here is a little uneven and slopes gently in places, so you may not have a completely flat pitch.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Facilities/activities including fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.

Beautiful scenery, if you are a star gazer, this campsite is perfect. Very quiet but we were the only campers on-site- very peaceful. Ingenious use of a container for toilets and showers

    Disliked:

No warm welcome for us - shown toilet/shower ‘block’ and pitch. Asked for grass pitch on booking and as we were the only campers on-site and there was space in a grass pitch we were directed to a small patch of grass where our awning just about fit into and a weedy, scrubby bit of hard standing. Facilities adequate but bins not emptied during our stay and mop grubby so was harder to keep shower clean.

From the manager...

Sorry you had a bad experience, we normally pride ourselves on greeting every customer individually. The shower block is cleaned regularly, the pitch you had was the one you booked via pitchup, and you would have been asked when you arrived if it was ok

My wife, dogs and I spent a couple of days at this site and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The area in which the campsite is located has stunning views. The facilities are good with the highlight being the hot showers. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. It's about 20 minute drive from Aberystwyth and other coastal towns. We had a great time and would recommend to our friends and family.

The site was excellent and the family who owned the site are extremely accommodating and helpful. You can hire a fire pit and buy wood on-site and most tents have a picnic table close by too. The lakes are are beautiful but a hard fish definitely not a runs water.

    Disliked:

The midgies and gnats are like a swarm of an evening by the lakes never seen anything like it so a good insect repellent is a must.

Just because you did not catch does not mean understocked. Fishing is a sport.

    Beautiful scenery.

    Disliked:

Lovely place, but so quiet, there where only another 2 couples staying on site, they packed up after one day, we found out why as they only went for the fishing, same as us, only caught 3 fish between 2 of us the whole weekend, not very good at all. We where sat at the lake with a radio on quietly got told to turn it of as it disturbed the fishermen baring in mind we were the only people there, but we had to listen to strimmers going all weekend, plus got charged full price for fishing even though we had paid to stay there, Not very good at all.

From the manager...

We can't guarantee fish, it depends on the weather, pressure etc., the people left early because of the noise from your party, the radio was not quiet, I had to politely ask you to turn it down, maintenance has to be done, also we did not have it going all the time, the farmer acroos the way was working as well. This is what you get when fishing in the country setting. Why would we not change you £7,00for fishing for over 12 hours.

Asked to turn the music down when we was only playing it to drown out the strimmer that they was using all day we was the only people fishing and was told our music was distracting the other fishermen. The music wasn’t loud the fish have disappeared we have stayed here a few times but this time it was completely different and didn’t enjoy it

From the manager...

The music could be heard in the house and two other fishermen left because of the noise, they told us we shouldn't let people have music on. We also had fly fisherman in. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy this time. Our Strimmer was far enough away, most of it was from the farm across the way, we cannot control what the farmer does.

Local attractions

Mosey to the market at Tregaron (15 minutes' drive from the site), location of the 2020 Eisteddfod and a fine place to browse farm-fresh food or indulge your inner magpie at the Welsh Gold Centre; other settlements to spy hereabouts include Aberystwyth (half an hour) for its 13th-century castle ruins, busy harbour and townhouse-lined seafront, as well as a renowned art centre and the National Library of Wales.

This top town’s also the launching point for the Vale of Rheidol Railway, which whisks visitors over to Devils Bridge inland for the spectacular waterfalls. If you’d rather stay close to the seaside, try the beach at Llanrhystud (20 minutes) or roam further south-east towards Aberaeron (25 minutes) to follow sandy times at its shoreline with browsing the local craft shops.

Didn’t spot any red kites back at the park? Twitching is to be had at Cors Caron National Nature Reserve (20 minutes), where you can look out for the famed creatures while also attempting to sight some of the other 170 winged species that call this area home.
