  • Alpaca farm on the edge of the Preseli Mountains in Carmarthenshire
  • A short walk from a woodland stream; pubs within 15 minutes’ drive
  • Shared kitchenette, communal barbecue and heated pod all included
On the edge of the Preseli Mountains, glorious views across animal paddocks and over the valley await at Bybrook Alpacas, a cosy and peaceful Carmarthenshire site surrounded by lush green countryside. The big draw of this place is the peace and quiet (and the resident Shetland ponies, the sheep and the woolly alpacas of course), but there’s plenty nearby to keep the whole family entertained – from getting to grips with the Preseli Mountains on bike or foot to thrills at nearby adventure parks. The towns of Whitland and Narberth – and their pubs, restaurants and supermarkets – are both about 15 minutes away by car. From the farm, a short wander takes you into the surrounding woodlands, where you can amble beside the small stream while the kids play in the woods. Of an evening, plonk yourself on the picnic table outside, fire up the barbecue, light the log fire and relax – what better way to pass the time than with good food and drink by a roaring fire? Facilities on site include a toilet, shower and kitchenette kitted out with microwave, kettle, and fridge, also cutlery, crockery and cookware (good news for folk planning to travel light). There is mains electricity in the kitchenette and pod, with a heater in the pod to take the chill off if the weather gets a bit cold.

What customers say

Visitors praise the serene, peaceful setting with beautiful countryside views, and the opportunity for children to interact with farm animals like alpacas and sheep. The pods are described as cosy, clean, and well-equipped with en-suite facilities and kitchenettes. The location is convenient for exploring the Pembrokeshire coast. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, a few minor points mentioned include the need for cooking pans and a working fridge in one instance, and suggestions for child-friendly crockery.

Liked What’s not to love? From the moment we arrived, the views were amazing. Having alpacas right next to the pod was such a highlight - they were absolutely lovely to watch! There were even some baby alpacas! The neighbouring paddock had horses and sheep too, which added to the whole countryside feel. The peace and quiet was incredible and on clear evenings we were treated to some stunning sunsets and a beautiful sky full of stars (I love the night sky)!

Wildlife can be heard throughout the day and night, which made it feel even more magical, but it never once disturbed our sleep. The location is beautifully remote, perfect if you want to switch off and truly relax from the every day hustle and bustle.

The pod itself was spotless. The bedding was fresh and crisp, the main bed was wonderfully comfortable and the kids loved having their little camp beds. The kitchen and bathroom were both immaculate, with everything you could possibly need; pots, pans, cutlery, glasses and even a tea towel. There is a gas BBQ outside for cooking, while inside the kitchen you’ve got a kettle and microwave, so mealtimes were easy and flexible. It meant we didn’t have to bring loads of extra things with us, which made life easier. There is also a small fridge in the pod. There is electricity in both the pod and kitchen area, so it really does feel like a cosy home away from home and made life a little bit easier (especially with a teenager and a pre-teen).

One thing we really loved is that the facilities aren’t shared. Everything was just for us, which made it feel even more private. Our pod also had its own little fenced-off area of land, almost like having a garden, which was brilliant for the kids and our dog to run around safely while we relaxed.

The site is also dog-friendly, though dogs do need to be kept on a lead, which is understandable given the alpacas, horses, and sheep nearby.

A real highlight for us was the campfire! Logs are available to buy on site and sitting by the fire under the night sky made our evenings extra special. Stargazing in that peaceful setting was unforgettable!

The owner and his family were absolutely lovely – so welcoming and kind and nothing was too much trouble for them. It really made the whole experience feel even more personal and enjoyable.

We can’t recommend this place enough – it’s peaceful, welcoming and such a perfect escape from everyday life.
We didn't want to leave, that's how amazing and perfect our stay was. We'll definitely go back next year.

*please ignore the 1 star for the WiFi - there is no WiFi but we didn't mind at all! It made it extra peaceful without phones constantly pinging. It wont let me undo the star*

Disliked Absolutely nothing!

Henrietta cabin (no pets)

Liked Serene, quiet and amazing views of the surrounding hills. It’s on a farm with animals, my kids love their walk to see the alpacas 🦙 and sheep.

Place was tastefully furnished, clean with en-suite shower and toilet. Plenty of hot showers. Kitchenette with stove and a sink. Bedding was provided. Host was friendly.

Not too far from the Pembrokeshire coast - St David’s (30 mins), Newgale (20 mins), St Govan’s (35 mins), Tenby (35 mins)

Disliked Table to eat outside would be great, there was a pot but no pans in the unit - bring one if you need to fry eggs etc and the fridge wasn’t working.

Henrietta cabin (no pets)

Liked This had its own shower and toilet and a lot of space outside for games and fires and bbq’s. There is also a farm which you are able to go into right next to the Henrietta. My little girl absolutely loved the alpacas and would often go and see them in the next field with us. It was spacious for us as a family of 3.
There was a wood burning heater which was absolutely blissful in the evenings when it starts to draw in. Beautiful views! And a lovely little bit of decking for those summer nights.
Will definitely recommend this gem.

Local attractions

If the adorable alpacas have left you wanting more animal encounters, set off to Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (20 minutes' drive) or to Clerkenhill Adventure Farm & Frizbee Golf Course (that’s animals and some pretty competitive frisbee chucking all in one place). For rainy days, take cover at Bluestone Adventure Centre (20 minutes) where the indoor shenanigans include miniature golf, climbing frames, soft play areas, bouncy castles and diggers to drive. Or cool off at Blue Lagoon Water Park (20 minutes) as you race down rides, rapid rivers and flumes. For a bit of sightseeing, snap-worthy spots include 13th-century Cilgerran Castle (25 minutes), Pentre Ifan burial chamber (30 minutes) and Castell Henllys Iron Age hill fort (half an hour). If the coast is calling, pack up your beach bag and head south to some of the area’s sandy hotspots – Saundersfoot is around half an hour away, Tenby 35 minutes and Pendine Sands about 40 minutes.
