  • Peaceful rural Carmarthenshire site with valley views near Carmarthen
  • Half-hour drive to Heatherton World of Activities or Wild Lakes Wales
  • Fishing the Taf river on site; five minutes’ drive to shops and dining
Sitting in 25 acres of West Wales countryside and with great views of the surrounding valley, The Marsh is well placed for exploring the coastlines of both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire around Carmarthen. With multiple kids’ attractions within half an hour’s drive, this is a top-notch spot for families with active kids – and their dogs are welcome too. It’s also a cracking choice for anglers, as they can practise casting for salmon, sea trout and bass amid a glorious backdrop of birdsong along the Taf river (extra cost). If you’re looking for a relaxing day on site, have a potter along its nature trails or wander down to the Taf for a waterside stroll. To up the pace a bit, head to the seaside town of Tenby (half an hour’s drive) for splashing around in the sea and boat trips to Caldey Island, or go sailing and windsurfing in Saundersfoot (25 minutes). Back on site, there’s a variety of grass pitches (some uneven and unmown) and simple facilities stretch to a washing-up area, a portable toilet and ice-pack freezing to keep barbecue goodies fresh. Pick up basics in the village of St Clears – where you can also down a caffeine fix – or do bigger shops in Laugharne (both five minutes), home to a ruined castle and displays in the Dylan Thomas Writing Shed. If you prefer, you could dodge the cooking completely and pick up fish and chips to eat back at camp or try a couple of Pembrokeshire brews in a local pub.

What customers say

A beautiful, peaceful site with stunning views and abundant wildlife, perfectly situated for exploring the coast. Guests praised the spacious pitches, immaculately clean facilities, and the excellent honesty shop offering local produce. The owner, Huw, is consistently described as exceptionally friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. While a desire for additional toilet and shower facilities was noted, it was generally seen as a minor point given the site's value and ongoing improvements, such as a new outdoor washing area with hot water.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely spacious level pitch - we were in pitch 4 overlooking the pond - had really helpful advice from the owner to use our motor mover and go in front first to get the best view. Site is only small but really good for a weekend break like ours.

Disliked Not a criticism really but the owner did say the weather had stopped him from being able to do some jobs on the site and they showed but really not his fault!

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a kind review, as mentioned the winter weather has played havoc with the planned improvements to the site, its rained constantly nearly every day since December but hopefully work will commence once the weather allows.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We could only stay one night as a stop over but could have happily added another couple of days. The site suited us perfectly, a warm welcome, clean toilets and showers, a massive 30 acres to wander round with ponds, marsh and river to explore with the dogs. Huw is a great host (and salesman!) - he talked us through everything and recommended some products from the honesty shop. We will definitely return and already know which pitches we want 🤗

Disliked Nothing at all

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely little quiet site with lovely views. Has a small shop with home grown essentials. Nice clean toilet and shower, elsan point. There lots of places for dogs on leads to walk and a big pond to walk around. We have returned having stayed last year. Site owner is very helpful and goes out of his way. Like we said on another review this is definately a favourite of ours and within easy weekend away for us, especially since it is open all year. Top Marks.

Disliked No dislikes at all. Ideally a dryer for a longer braek but it's a small site and growing, so not a deal breaker by any means.

Local attractions

What a spot for family holidays. You can keep the kids going all day with animal encounters at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (20 minutes’ drive), or challenge them to mini-golf games and paintball fights at Heatherton World of Activities (half an hour). Rather be out in the water? There’s a wave pool and high-impact flume rides at Blue Lagoon Water Park (25 minutes), or you can book family wakeboarding lessons at Wild Lakes Wales (half an hour). On sunny days, jump in the car and head for the beaches in Saundersfoot (half an hour) for some downtime messing about in the waves. To slow things down a bit, the National Botanic Garden of Wales (20 minutes) is a good place for lots of strolls in peaceful landscapes and rare plants in a Norman Foster-designed glasshouse, or you can up the cultural element of your Wales break with a guided tour of Pembroke Castle (35 minutes).
