Fron Rafel: Hardstanding with grass

General

  • Small family- and dog-friendly site with views over the Teifi valley
  • A five-minute drive from Newcastle Emlyn and 15 to Cenarth Falls
  • Poppit Sands, Llangrannog and Aberporth beaches reachable in 30 mins

Turn up in the Teifi valley for a Welsh welcome at Fron Rafel, a small family-run site spread over seven acres whose friendly vibes and helpful staff are as tiptop as the views of the countryside from the grounds.

As well as being in a lush rural area in west Wales, this dog-friendly place is less than 10 minutes’ drive to the popular settlement of Newcastle Emlyn and 35 minutes from the family-friendly beach of Poppit Sands (lifeguarded in summer), so you can switch between coastal and town times with ease.

Countryside explores are also prime around this park, with Cenarth Falls and its leaping salmon 15 minutes’ drive for waterfall hiking and sightseeing; for mountain biking and more walks, Brechfa Forest is within half an hour. Up for getting out on the water? A local adventure company can arrange canoe trips and other outdoor activities in the site's Carmarthenshire surroundings.

If you fancy browsing the shops in Cardigan and Carmarthen instead, both are about half an hour from the park. Restaurants are dotted around these market towns as well as closer by and a well-stocked supermarket is within a couple of miles for picking up ready meals to warm up in the microwave back on base.

Other amenities at the site include a newly restored piggery building with ladies’ and gents’ shower rooms and a family wetroom plus washing-up facilities and a toaster at one end of the block. The park also has your essentials sorted with a chemical disposal and two washing machines, free for guests to use.

Friendliness of the welcome and the well maintained grounds and pitches.
    Facilities were spotless.

    Disliked:

    Nothing about the site itself.
It is a little, off the beaten track, if you are inexperienced or nervous when towing, the roads are steep, winding and narrow.

From the manager...

thankyou for your feedback. we are a little surprised by your review as we have full directions on pitch up and if you downloaded booking information and directions you would not need to come down any narrow lanes. our listing is a campsite which is remote so maybe our site wasn't for you. you didn't ask for wifi but scored us 1. good luck with learning how to tow a caravan. kind regards Steve & Cathy

Well this place is a little gem, small site very friendly family run the owner walked round and greeted us everyday and nothing was any bother to him very helpful.
The birdsong in the mornings was amazing as there are no traffic noise or lighting, the site is very wildlife friendly with bird boxes around for the wildlife.
We took our German shepherd dog with us. The site has a doggie walk area with a large water feature so that was good. There is a steam train which you can book in the local area which is doggy friendly.
We had a very relaxing break and the weather was good.
Will visit again for a longer break next time.
    Thank you

Beautifully clean site. Very small and friendly. Made to feel welcome on arrival by the owner who introduced himself. One female and one male toilet with a modern sliding door shower cubicle in each. As it was quiet, we were invited to stay on site all day and not rush off at the usual departure time at no extra cost.

The owner was super friendly and made us feel very welcomed. The site was peaceful, clean, and great pitches that had water and electric on every one. We loved that all the pitches had the choice of grass or gravel. We also loved that the site was a sun trap. The site had a kitchen with all the essentials too which was helpful for us in our tent.

    * Great size pitches.

We booked for the weekend of the big storm, Steve sent a text to say there was no electric and trees had come down in the area, he said we could re-book, we went two weeks later as it was only an hour from home, and we were not disappointed, lovely and quiet a 15-20 minute walk to the village well worth going too, would recommend.
