General

  • Family-friendly site by the coast, 10 minutes' drive from Llanelli
  • Musical site: band nights, singalongs and karaoke evenings on offer
  • Indoor pool, fishing lake, indoor and outdoor play and bar-restaurant

Wales is hailed as the land of song, so it’s perhaps no surprise to find a busy menu of musical offerings at Llanelli’s Gateway Resort, where weekend evenings and summer nights are spent tapping toes in the company of tribute bands and vocalists. If you’ve been inspired to flex your own vocal cords you can join the singalong on karaoke night (what a treat for your avidly watching family…)

And if you're not a singer (or are the type of singer that induces humans to wince and hounds to howl)? Get your spot in the limelight by shining at bingo or quiz night instead, or determine to make your mark working through the food and drinks menus of the on-site bar-restaurant. This cosy spot is open all day for breakfasts, snacks, pub grub and an extensive range of drinks; it’s also the place to gather round the large-screen TVs when there’s a big match on (especially if it’s Welsh rugby).

Just as much effort has gone into providing plenty of daytime distractions here too – there’s absolutely loads to do at this splendidly-equipped site. Take yourself off to the fishing lake to see what you can land, or splash in the indoor pool (with bubble machine and paddling pool); there are also indoor and outdoor play areas, a miniature golf course and a fab kids’ corner with games, craft activities and a little café.

And just what is the Gateway Resort the gateway to? Well, a good many things indeed – gorgeous beaches, a seaside cycle path, a castle, adrenaline-fuelled activities and farm parks are all nearby.

For such a big site - no adults only section only couples in tents with no ehu which was close to the kids play area.

    Disliked:

Pitches are poorly drained. Pitch they offered up to begin was basically a bog. Moved to hard stranding which was good. Still extremely muddy.
No curfew on noise so noise onsite went on past 1am.
Toilets were not clean and neither were showers.

There was a lot for the children to do, the pool and arcade was closed due to covid but the park and golf were brilliant. And there was a beautiful walk beside the estuary which we enjoyed. All the staff were friendly and we enjoyed a takeaway meal from the bar.

    Disliked:

There were no enforcements with the covid virus. No one was wearing facemasks and it made us feel exposed, not even inside to order food, or in the shop. The washing machine didnt work properly and I ended up with a lot of soaking wet clothes that I couldn't dry because it didnt drain properly. And there is only 1 toilet block and 2 washing up sinks for the whole of the campsite which meant alot of queuing and no social distancing.

    Nothing

    Disliked:

Do not arrive after 5pm as the reception is closed.
If you do you have to try and find someone to ask about your pitch.
If it is dark trying to find your pitch is a nightmare.
We were given a pitch number and an electricity card which we found out can only be topped up at the bar which is useless when it is closed. Come on guys get it online.
The pitch was in the Dragon field which took us ages to find, not enough sign posts! and then l had to get out with a torch and walk the field to find out the correct number, ours had no number so had to count down from one that did have a number.
I needless to say will never stay at the site again!
