  • Peaceful flat field on a working farm; views of the Mynydd Mallaen
  • A 10-minute drive from the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • Two minutes' walk from a pub; secure bike storage
Calon y Cwm is a peaceful site set on the edge of the small Carmarthenshire village of Cilycwm. Located on a 100-acre working farm overlooking the Mynydd Mallaen plateau and next to the Gwenlais river, this spot would be well-suited to those looking for adventures in the Brecon Beacons, the edge of which is a quick 10-minute drive away. Calon y Cwm is just a couple of minutes' walk from the village pub, where the hot food, snacks and refreshing drinks are all recommended by your hosts. Other facilities like fresh running water, brown water disposal and portable toilets are all available for your use back at base. Handily for cyclists, Calon y Cwm also has secure bike storage and drying available, and Cwm Rhaeadr mountain bike track is around five minutes' drive away. Barbecues are allowed here, and you're an easy 10-minute drive from the small town of Llandovery where you can stock up on supplies. The town has a number of other handy amenities, including a railway station, cafés, more pubs and the ruins of a medieval castle.

Liked: Just come back from our stay here and have to say it was so lovely! The owners were so friendly, Bunty very good with the children and they even got us our milk save us going out with the children. There was a kettle, microwave, hairdryer, fridge, and freezer there which was great. Also it's so nice that the shower was so clean too. There was a stream that the children played in for hours and as for peacefulness goes you can't beat it, the walks around the village were lovely too, so quaint. Just wonderful, can't recommend enough!!

Disliked: Nothing it was a perfect stay

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Friendly host, lovely location close to few water reservoirs. Place was clean and tidy. No internet access in the kids phones it’s a big plus 👍 Definitely come back again.

Disliked: There was some lights and flags by the entrance which looks lovely but bit to low for my bikes on the roof of my car… anyway.. shouldn’t be a problem anymore , (again sorry about that 🙂) but seriously, nothing to dislike!!!

From the manager: Thank you for your review and please think nothing of the flags and lights it was our mistake not putting them high enough. We look forward to seeing you again.

Disliked: Needed to come home early as fearful for my health due to the cleanliness!! The toilet was a simple portaloo that was absolutely disgusting 🤢 there were teenagers cleaning them or looking at them but didn’t make any difference to the stench They cleaner at big festivals

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The owners are welcoming people, we were able to stay overnight on the empty field closer to the house. The other field was quite full. The children played at the stream nearby and enjoyed the having the sheep close too. The location of the campsite was good, in a quiet village, but by car close to a forest, Nature Reserve and Llandovery, all worth a visit.

Disliked: There could be some more signage around the place, especially since the owners are working farmers). We arrived late and weren't sure what house to ring at.

From the manager: Hi Thanks for your review and glad you enjoyed your stay I will definately put up a sign that is a good idea Hope to see you again Bunty

The cabin with fridge, kettle and microwave is really useful.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: As soon as we arrived we were met by a lovely lady who gave us the option of two fields to camp. Unfortunately we have an Alaskan Malamute pup who loves to eat anything off the ground so the unoccupied field was a no go due to the cow pats on the ground (not a fault of the owner!). So we found a little corner in the big field where we placed our selves so that we had some privacy with a great amount of space. We could put the car next to the tent which was a bonus so we could keep the pup in the car whilst we unpacked. The facilities were just what we needed. A loo, a very nice shower and a sink to wash up our pots. There was a beautiful little hut which had a kettle and a microwave should you need it. The site was in very close proximity to Llandovery which had a beautiful high street with shops and a lovely castle with some history! (We love a castle)

Disliked: The only dislike I can think of is that we have a puppy that does not have a recall (She is a malamute after all) so we keep her on a lead at all times, however some of the campers had small dogs and would let them just run across the field towards our pup and not listen to their owners when calling them back, which was very annoying when we were trying to relax. Maybe there should be a on lead policy when in that field. We really struggled with this, as some dogs were connected to pegs in the ground (including ours) which was great and we really appreciated this and they could interact when allowed, but others weren’t.

From the manager: Thank you Yes I will address that problem immediately
