Quarry Lodge Camping: Meadow camping

General

  • Small family-friendly site with spectacular Towy valley views
  • A 10-minute walk from a local restaurant and traditional country pub
  • Herb boxes and hedgerows on site for foraging

Escapades through Welsh countryside, adventures in the great wide open and boating jaunts through a National Park… At Quarry Lodge Camping, a tiny family-friendly site in south Wales less than five minutes’ drive from the Carmarthenshire village of White Mill and 10 minutes from Carmarthen town, you’re all set for an active getaway.

Quarry Lodge is less than half an hour from the edge of Brecon Beacons National Park, where you can live your best outdoorsy life with abseiling, biking, walking, riding, rock climbing, canoeing and rafting or, for a challenge, head for the Brecon Beacons an hour and 45 minutes away. If coastal walks are more likely to put the wind in your sails, head seaward with a jaunt to New Quay, just under an hour from base, to join the Wales Coast Path along Cardigan Bay.

When your legs are demanding a rest day, chill out on site – it’s quietly rural and you can put your feet up while taking in views over the spectacular Towy valley. When you’re rested just enough for a stiff-legged walk, meander into White Mill (10 minutes' stroll) to grab a bite and knock back a drink at the inn.

If your feet are still protesting, you can stick around site instead: get that barbecue stoked up and load it up with supplies from the White Mill shop. Want to give a little extra flair to the tired old munch? Wander over to the wild hedgerows and herb boxes, where you can forage for a little something to liven it all up.

The pitch was lovely and the views would have been stunning if not for the fog that had descended upon us. Rob greeted us and was polite and funny. The shower was warm and toilet area clean. The site is a must if you want to get back to nature and the White Mill pub is fantastic (700 metres from the site) for food- portions sizes are huge and priced reasonably and a warm welcome was given.

    Disliked:

Only one toilet and shower with no heating apart from the tiniest electric heater. If open in winter it needs to be sufficiently heated. The wooden steps were a little slippery too. No WiFi, we like to be able to travel and work at the same time but no WiFi meant not being able to work. Rob did say we could use the house one but it should be a basic necessity for guests to pay should they need it.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your feedback, its always helpful. Just would to point out that we do have additional toilets and showers but choose to close them over winter due to the potential of frost damage to the pipes and boiler. We certainly take your point about heating the shower block and is something we need to address, it has been a trial this winter to see if there is enough trade to warrant being open at this time of year. Thank you again.

Our stay at Quarry lodge was fantastic.
We arrived very late in our campervan and after some very heavy rain. The owner was incredibly accommodating, allowing us to change to a hard standing pitch, with space for our tent/awning, with no fuss at all. Throughout the stay the owner was really helpful when it came to amenities/facilities and gave us several pieces of local advice.
The site itself is a beautiful location with a great view, lovely, clean facilities, warm showers and is close to a huge variety of adventures. We are looking to return in the future to try out one of the "personal" little camping pitches available.

Linda was incredibly kind, and every morning was checking whether everything was alright, and if we needed anything.

The campsite was in a beautiful location, with beautiful views on one side, and the chance of seeing Red Kites on the other.

The facilities were amazing! We have never been to a campsite with the option of using a kettle before!

Well maintained and organised campsite, excellent friendly service, this campsite has everything we wanted, and is a real bargain too. It had all the amenities we would want from a campsite, and we really appreciated that the host provided us with some folding chairs as we didn’t have any of our own. We loved our stay here and would definitely stay here again if we came back to Carmarthenshire. Thank you Quarry Lodge.
