Relaxing breakfast in the sunshine

General

  • Just outside Lamphey village with Pembrokeshire National Park views
  • Tenby, Pembroke, Carew and stunning beaches all within 10 minutes
  • Modern amenities, guest kitchen, firepit hire and logs/kindling sales

Castles, coast, stunning views… you'll tick these off within easy reach of any base in Wales: no-one should ever get to say 'Are we there yet' in this fably compact land.

But how handier again to have a seaside town, golden sands and three tiptop old castles within a short drive… and the activities and splendid sights of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park too. Step forward, Dews Lake Farm between peaceful countryside and spectacular coast – this lush and award-winning site has the aforementioned lot within a short drive.

The farm's setting on the outskirts of Lamphey village puts it within 15 minutes' drive of Tenby (beach, medieval walls), the golden sands of Barafundle (National Trust, stunning) and the aged castles of Manorbier, Pembroke and Carew (must-sees, all). Freshwater East beach, in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, is five minutes' drive away.

All this, and campfires too. Blazing up your own flames is encouraged at Dews Lake Farm – just hire a firepit – and logs and kindling are available to buy. Home-cooked and home-reared eats are available from outside caterers during school holidays and bank holiday weekends, or you can sizzle up supper for yourself using your alfresco flames or the communal kitchen with double electric hob (and two fridges, freezer and washing-up sink). A shop and a bakery are a couple of minutes' drive away at Lamphey.

The modern amenities include seven hot showers, separate ladies’ and gents’ toilets and a chemical disposal area. The site encourages recycling, laying on daily bin collections so guests can be green with ease.

A village pub is within walking distance.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Clean tidy site with good facilities.23/09/2019

Clean tidy site. Three spacious camping fields so certainly when out of season lots of choice of pitch. Plenty of clean showers / WCs (in converted shipping container). Kitchen for washing up. Pop-up on-site cafe from about 8am serving coffee and vegan food. Short walk (or bike ride) to Lamphey village which has a pub and a halt on the Carmarthen to Pembroke Dock railway line (which you can see from the site). Friendly and helpful site owner. Free no-fuss WiFi. I got a good deal on a two night stay as there was a special offer for the Tenby Ironman triathlon.

    Disliked:

Not much I didn't like. Site office not continuously manned so pitch selection is a bit of a free for all. That's fine, but on my first night another van turned up with occupants who were not so considerate to others regarding noise levels. With no 'officials' on site there is no monitoring of who is entering the site. [Not even sure they were supposed to be there as after the owner arrived during my second day they cleared off].

The site was really clean, tidy and spacious pitches. There was a guest kitchen and also a breakfast truck on site. The amenities where all well kept and convenient for all pitches. The lady I spoke to after booking was very polite and helpful when she rang to inform me that the road would be closed outside the camp early nxt morning for the iron man challenge and offered us to stay for the day should we want to. The camp was really quiet with extending views of the Pembrokeshire countryside. Really peaceful and relaxing stay with the added bonus of watching the mists roll over the fields surrounding fields into camp. Would highly recommend a visit if you're in the area. .....you won't leave disappointed.

Electric pitches available to tents. Able to pitch in quiet spot at the top of the site.Large open field with space in the middle to play games. Generous pitch allocation with no extra charge for trailer. Plenty of toilets. Spacious showers with lots of hot water. 2 Freezers for campers to use.Fire pit to hire. Noise curfew after 11pm. Recycling bins. Site mowed and maintained daily. Food truck visited site one day.

    Disliked:

No hot water supply to bathroom sinks, so always washing in cold water. A few more washing up sinks would also be useful (only 2 for whole site).
The site was holding several toddler music sessions on one of the days and although it was mostly in the marquee area, we were pitched nearby, and we could clearly hear the very enthusiastic lady jingling bells and singing rhymes in a high pitched voice. Whilst it was ok for a bit, this went on for most of the afternoon as she held several group sessions and quite frankly it became irritating. I am not sure there is a way to avoid this however and I applaud the farm diversification and community service.

Great campsite near to amenities. Good shower and toilet set up for those who don’t like to feel under pressure in the usual small toilet block set up!

    Disliked:

Only thing would be that a few more plugs for the washing up sinks would have been good...think they must have been carried away with peoples clean dishes!

Great campsite. Good sized pitches around the edge of field. Good powerful showers. Peaceful site with a relaxed atmosphere. Kitchen area great with plenty of sinks and use of fridge and freezer. Also kettle and small electric hob.

    Disliked:

Shame that there is no footpath from the site to the local village as you need to walk on the road to get to Lamphey

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your feedback!

We have recently created a pathway connecting the campsite to the village through a meadow area, however, we definitely need some signs ... I will get on to this asap! So sorry you weren't told about this for your visit.

All the best!

There could be a little more site info given when you arrive. I.e- when the cafe is open, when the breakfast van comes, where to hire fire pit and when quiet times are.

Local attractions

Tiptop Tenby, one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Pembrokeshire coast, is seven miles or 15 minutes' drive from the farm.

Parking can be tricky in high season so the Dews Lake Farm owners recommend getting the train from Lamphey: once in town, there are two and a half miles' worth of beaches to roam, a handsome centre with independent shops, cafés and restaurants to potter around, medieval town walls including the Five Arches to snap pics of, and the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery for cultured hours and souvenirs. Boat trips leave from Tenby's harbour to Caldey Island.

More popular spots nearby are Manorbier beach and castle, and the famed sands of Freshwater East, a long stretch of beach that's a top pick for sea swimming; both are four miles or under 10 minutes' drive away. From Barafundle Bay (15 minutes), hike the clifftop path about 20 minutes to Stackpole Quay and its tearoom – or park at Stackpole and hike to Barafundle and back again.

The surfing waves of Freshwater West are 20 minutes' drive away.
