  • Quiet adults-only glamping site with spectacular Monmouthshire views
  • A 10-minute drive to the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • Well-equipped pods and a communal kitchen on a farm with livestock
With just a handful of cosy and compact glamping pods set amid dramatic Monmouthshire scenery, Pear Tree Glamping is a peaceful, adults-only location where guests can come to chill and soak up fabulous views, or get the hiking boots on and step out onto on walking trail in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons. Whatever style of holiday you prefer, your base here is a small working farm with a herd of cows and calves grazing in fields nearby. Doubtless you’ll also make fast friends with the friendly resident donkey, who’s pretty keen on meeting any visitors. Your downtime will be spent getting snug in insulated wooden pods cleverly kitted out with a comfortable double bed, side table and easy chairs. An ultra-modern shower room and fully equipped kitchen with fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave complete the amenities and are just a few steps away from the pods. Outside, a firepit is ready for cooking alfresco meals, along with deck chairs and picnic benches for whiling away time on warmer days. If you feel like letting someone else do the cooking, choose from several pubs within half an hour’s walking distance, or make a special trip to The Skirrid Inn (15 minutes’ drive), one of the oldest pubs in Wales.

Camping pod

Liked: Sue was friendly and welcoming, making me & my daughter feel at home straight away. The pod we stayed in was one of two, which are situated in a beautiful peaceful farm setting, with fantastic views of the Welsh countryside around. The pod has a comfortable double bed, and feels very cosy inside. There is a separate kitchen/shower/toilet block right next to the pod which is really easy to access & kept really clean. Would highly recommend & would definitely stay here again!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Camping pod

Liked: Beautiful situation, well equipped-site is new -owners keen to know how to improve site and very welcoming

Disliked: Could add small camping hob in kitchen for cooking if not using log fire

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We're keen for feedback and welcome your point about a camping stove/hob. We hadn't thought of this so will now get one in place. A good idea so much appreciated.

Local attractions

Numerous trails on numerous mountains will keep avid hikers happy; peaks including the triangular Skirrid (15 minutes’ drive), Blorenge and Sugar Loaf (both half an hour) are all in the Brecon Beacons National Park, while the long-distance Offa’s Dyke Path also runs through the national park, making Pear Tree Glamping a great overnight stop for hikers. The circular Three Castles Walk takes in medieval ruins at Grosmont (10 minutes), Skenfrith (15 minutes) and White Castle (10 minutes), and there are more historic buildings to discover at Raglan Castle (half an hour), which is open for self-guided tours of its photogenic 15th-century ruins. Sitting amid leafy walks along the River Wye, the Gothic landmark that is the Cistercian Tintern Abbey (40 minutes) was founded in 1131, and you can take in the sprawling carcass of medieval Llanthony Priory (half an hour) on walks leading up tree-clad foothills nearby. Monmouth town centre has its share of history too, with a castle to explore along with an unusual fortified bridge across the Wye – to mix things up a bit, it also has indie shops to browse and a lively bar and restaurant scene.
