  • Spectacular setting for the Gower Peninsula, overlooking Oxwich Bay
  • Refurbished eco-friendly shower block with underfloor heating
  • Large adventure playground
You will, of course, have heard of the great Gower Peninsula. This spectacular south Wales spot of cliffs, coves, caves and bays is so handsome it was designated the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK way back in 1956, made up of 70 square miles from Loughor Estuary to Swansea Bay; if you've never been, this really must be on your holiday list. The folk at award-winning Greenways of Gower Premier Leisure Park reckon their location is 'second to none' for Gower camping – and once you arrive there, you'll reckon they're right. Right in the centre of the peninsula, Greenways overlooks stunning Oxwich Bay and its two and a half miles of golden sands, once named as the best beach in Britain; Rhossili Bay, several times voted the best beach in Wales, is under 20 minutes' drive from here. Greenways is a family-run and family-orientated park, with grass pitches and plenty of space. Gratified previous guests have lauded the amenities as 'exceptional': they include an eco-friendly and modern shower block with underfloor heating running off an air source heat pump, plus disabled facilities and a parent and baby washroom. For leisurely pursuits, a big adventure playground is next to the camping area. There's also a pizza truck and a pop-up bar on site (these two are available on weekends in the summer or on bank holidays). Shops and restaurants are within walking distance.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean, tidy site. Toilet block was very very clean and well looked after. Friendly welcome too from reception.

Disliked Recycling bins were a bit of a muddle, looked like all the card bins were in one place, cans in another, but a minor point and likely not the fault of the operators.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked Lovely site, really looked after, well maintained, great shower block, can choose your own pitch, laundry room, washing up area, kids play area, pop up bar and pizza bus in the summer months (weekends I believe), 1 mile to the beach.

Disliked Only downside for me is no electric hook ups.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely position with great views down to the sea. Very good toilet block in terms of number of loos/basins/showers etc. Very clean

Disliked The site was quiet when we arrived but the majority of the loos didn't have loo roll in the dispensers (this was rectified on day 2 of our stay) and only one soap dispenser was full, the others were not topped up over several days. The facilities were cleaned well, so not sure why these things were overlooked? It took a long time for hot water to reach the showers, which were push button operated, so needed to be be pushed 10-12 times (and water allowed to run through each time) before there was any hot water. There was no outside tap for filling campervan water tanks, just a push button drinking water tap? Also no facilities for recycling anything but cardboard and paper on the main tent camping area - we later found a glass recycling bin much further down towards the entrance but it wasn't signed and clearly no one had found it because the rubbish bins on the tent site were full of bottles and cans which could have been recycled.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked We thoroughly loved this campsite and will definitely come again - we have already sent messages to our 'kids' suggesting that they give this campsite a go. The site is well maintained and in a good location. It was not too busy and therefore we had a good choice of pitches, and if there is a westerly wind there are good hedges around the perimeter to shelter behind. The beeches at Slade and Oxwich are a comfortable 20mins walk away.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked The view is great and Oxwich beach is just a short walk away.

Disliked Quite impersonal in that nobody from the site spoke to us during our stay.
All external taps are push taps with no way of connecting a hose so no way to fill a campervan/motorhome water tank.
Showers/wash block water warm in the morning but barely tepid in the evening.
Be aware the hilltop location is very exposed and can be really windy.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked I wanted to write a review for the things the website doesn't answer. We had a wonderful stay and would come again!

Field- large and well maintained. We went mid week and there were no more than 5 other tents/caravans. The nearest was about 50 metres away. Bliss.
Reception- was friendly. I must say I emailed about two weeks prior to my booking asking for a area plan so I could see what the facilities were like. Distance from the block to the field etc but heard nothing.

Facilities- clean!!! The showers were warm as long as you used the closest one to the door got colder the further you went. The last one did not warm up.
Drinking water, plenty of taps. Laundry/Washing Room was great. Large sinks with hot water. There was two freezers which were so handy. To note, there is a coffee machine, iron and hairdryers but these use 50p.... the hairdryers were the only huge massive disappointment and it was a waste of a trip to the shop to get 50p. The hair dryers got to a mid temperature but had no force. I gave up after 10 mins and my hair was still wet.
There are no powers points anywhere in the block, despite what it says online, so even though I brought my own hair dryer I was unable to use it.

Area- there is a shop in the village by the beach with the basic necessities. There is ice cream parlour and chip shop which was a joy. To note, the campsite is on a hill. If you have mobility issues and don't plan on driving when you're on holiday this may not be the campsite for you. There is a "path to the beach" which allows you to walk away from the road but this was over grown and slippy due to the rocks on the path. Road or path it takes about 20 minutes to the beach.
There is a lovely pub/hotel right on the beach that allows dogs and it was lovely.
Walking- the walk to Oxwich Point and the costal path round to Oxwich beach was about 6k. It was a lovely walk, but watch out for the steps which go straight up and down. It was a steep incline or decline at either end. May not be suitable for young children etc.
We would return and choose a more covered spot on the pitch as we came mid wind storm and our tent took a battering.
Hope this is helpful to anyone!

Local attractions

The stunning sands of Oxwich Bay and their fringe of dunes, woodland and coastal footpath should be your first Gower Peninsula port of call, for long lazy days sunbathing and sandcastle building, summer watersports such as sailing, swimming, windsurfing and diving, and boat and jetski launch from the beach. Around the sands, this is prime walking land: take the Gower Coast Path from the bay for a three-and-a-half-mile coastal and woodland ramble to Oxwich Point, or around the same distance from the bay to Port Eynon Walk via Three Cliffs Bay and Port Head. The wetland site of Oxwich National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is also well worth a wander. For a city sightseeing day, Swansea is half an hour's drive from the park.
