  • Small, peaceful adults-only site with Bristol Channel views
  • Cwm Nash Beach 15 minutes’ walk; Llantwit Major 10 minutes’ drive
  • Bar and café on site with varied opening hours; pub five minutes’ walk
Looking for an adults-only retreat that's small, peaceful and in the countryside? That's Heritage Coast Campsite, a simple, friendly location in Monknash in the Vale of Glamorgan. With views of the Bristol Channel, it's just a 15-minute walk from Cwm Nash Beach along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. A core part of the site is the Teddy’s Bar & Café (with varied opening hours throughout the week), where guests are welcome to come along for a drink or a chat. On Monday to Thursday (from 9am to 10am), it's open for tea, coffee, refreshments and local knowledge; the team has maps, recommendations and tips to share. Meanwhile, on Friday and Saturdays, it's open from 9am until the bar shuts, so as well as daytime refreshments, you could get your hands on an evening drink. Sundays, from 9am to 11am, are all about local pointers and relaxed refreshments. Facilities wise, Heritage Coast Campsite has everything you should need for a comfortable stay including firepits to rent, disabled facilities, a utility room and a freezer. There are two blocks, each with toilets, showers (for a small charge), sinks and a hand dryer, plus a hairdryer in the ladies’ block. Just take note that there are no Elsan, chemical or wastewater disposal points. There's no shop on site, either, but there's a village shop in Wick, one and a half miles away. Llantwit Major has a wider range of shops and services and is just a 10-minute drive away. There's a popular pub in Monknash (five minutes’ walk away) – live music's regular there on weekends – and Wick has more pubs within 10 minutes’ drive. Take time at dusk to listen for hooting owls and watch the sunsets from your pitch: Heritage Coast Campsite is in a wildlife haven too. Parties are not permitted on site.

Brook Paddock non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This camp site is fabulous. Well maintained, clean & with superb shower block & washing up area. While we were there the onsite cafe/bar was open & supplied delicious tea, coffee, hot chocolate & a range of alcoholic drinks including very nice local cider.
The owners & staff were welcoming, friendly & extremely helpful - going above & beyond to ensure all needs are catered for.
The location is superb & Brook field quiet & with delightful views.
There is a lot to see & do in this area & a walkers paradise.
We appreciated the fact this is an adults only site & we would definitely love to return one day.
Thankyou for a wonderful stay!

Liked Location, helpful and friendly site staff.

Disliked For the price the showers could be a little better. Some information online is inaccurate especially the serving of cooked breakfasts at the weekend, this is no longer available.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked the location, the cleanliness, the site is very well kept
I understand the need to recycle - a suggestion would be to give each pitch 2 recycle boxes - 1 for general waste and 1 for food which can be emptied by the site if they want to or by the guests.
Not everyone takes bags or bins with them
The boxes can then be returned to the site owners at the end of their visit
We had a very enjoyable stay

Disliked the pub up the road was rather expensive

From the manager: Thank you for such a lovely review and we are thrilled to see such lovely photos you certinly had our best pitch down by the stream. I am so thrilled to read you enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. In regards to the public footpath access unfortunately these are not managed by us but by the local governing councils. We sadly can only control the grounds of our 2 field site.

Many thanks,

Would recommend if you’re looking for a quiet, friendly site.

Local attractions

Coastal walks, beaches, museums, castles and outdoor activities are all around locally to get stuck into. If you want to stick to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, it runs for 14 miles from Porthcawl to Aberthawl and has some highly scenic walks as well as even more scenic horse rides to be had on its beaches. You can also try out one of the local surf schools or go fishing nearby at Wick (10 minutes’ drive) or Penarth Beach (40 minutes). Active types can also try their luck at TeamSport Go Karting Cardiff (55 minutes), show their true colours at Taskforce Paintball Games (20 minutes) and have a few rounds of Welsh golf; there are a couple of courses within half an hour by car. Head for Ogmore (15 minutes) or Fonmon (20 minutes) castles to swot up on some Welsh history, and add to your knowledge with a trip to St Fagans National History Museum in Cardiff (40 minutes). The National Trust’s Dyffryn Gardens (half an hour) make an interesting day out for green-fingered types.
