The quiet and peaceful wildflower meadow pitches at The Chicken House in Glamorgan are tucked among trees, giving guests plenty of privacy and a remote, back-to-nature vibe.
This off-grid pop-up campsite has basic facilities and its countryside location seems far removed from the hustle and bustle of life, but it’s also surprisingly easy to access, being 15 minutes’ drive from Caerphilly and Junction 28 of the M4, as well as 35 minutes from the museums and shops of Cardiff.
Mountain-biking and walking tracks (handy for walking any dogs that might be with you) surround the pitches, while there’s also fishing, golf and horse riding for active types within 15 minutes’ drive.
You can spark up a barbecue (firepits are provided on request) and snap up goodies to grill from the convenience store in Machen (five minutes); there are also a couple of pubs and cafés in the village too, if alfresco cooking is not for you.
Those concerned with safety will also be pleased that the entrance and exit to The Chicken House are covered by CCTV from 7:30pm to 7:30am every night.

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.
The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).
Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.
Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.
Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.
If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.
The maximum vehicle dimensions allowed are 5m length x 2.3m width x 2.4m height.

There is a low bridge (of seven feet and three inches) on the main satnav route. For vehicles above this height, visit via Lewis Street and then Sunnybank Terrace, or the streets above, as they all lead to the same place. Please note that the entrance is only 20 metres north of the low bridges; the satnav suggests going further up the mountain. Turn right into the drive 'Ysgubor Fach Lane'.

The Chicken House cancellation policy
No refunds within 1 day of arrival date.
The site is not liable for any refund in the event of force majeure.
Refunds within the indicated cancellation period are only possible if the site is able to relet your unit/pitch.
Changes cannot be made once you have booked.
If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please give as much notice as possible so that someone else has the chance to book. You may wish to buy holiday insurance for cancellations and for your property/injury whilst away.
Please note that your deposit is paid to Pitchup.com and is non-refundable.
Payment
A 15% non-refundable deposit is payable now. The Chicken House will debit the balance from your card 1 week before arrival, or if the arrival date is sooner than 1 week then the balance will be taken immediately.
You can also opt to pay the full amount at the time of your booking, or at any point before the due date.
