General

  • Peaceful family campsite in west Wales and the Teifi Valley
  • Fishing pond and in a wildlife haven
  • Arts, crafts and farm activities available for children

Sick of wrestling the X-box from your little monkeys’ paws and chasing them out into the fresh air? Take them to talk to the animals at this fab and family-friendly south Wales farm site instead, or go along with your other half for some rural relaxation – the owners of quiet and secluded Dolbryn Caravan and Camping, near Newcastle Emlyn in Carmarthenshire, know what make all sorts tick.

For grown-up concerns, Dolbryn has a small fishing pond on site for a couple of hours’ chilling, or you could just wander around site and watch the wildlife: this is one of our ‘wildlife haven’ sites, with birds, fruit and flowers spottable around the valley, stream, ponds and hedgerows.

Small people have plenty laid on to keep them entertained, including arts and crafts events, helping to feed the chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs and goats every morning, and the Sticky Club for an hour on Sunday mornings in high season (under-eights must be accompanied by an adult).

The amenities at Dolbryn are well thought out: original and refurbished farm buildings with separate heated wash facilities for ladies and gents; a family room with disabled access, a large fridge freezer for guests’ use and a laundry room with two washing machines.

Another barn has been turned into a cosy family-friendly bar that's open at weekends and evenings in high season, and there's also a small shop with a range of locally reared meat and baked goodies as well as everyday essentials.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

    EVERYTHING.

Lovely campsite. Toilets and showers spotless.
    Lovely spacious pitches
    Owners are a lovely couple.
Bonus for us was the dog walking field as the first 7 days it rained nonstop so we didnt really get out much.we have 2 little pugs who loved the field...
I was recuperating from an illness so the peaceful and lovely quiet campsite was perfect. Just what a campsite should be.
If there was 10 stars this campsite would of got them.
Never enjoyed a campsite as much as this even if the wind and rain was horrendous. we have been to lots of campsites but this is the only one that as ticked all our boxes..
Thanks Sioned for a lovely stay.
    See you next year

Everything. Run by a lovely friendly family who were very helpful! Toilets and showers clean. Plenty of hot water in the showers.
We didn’t participate in the evening activities due to toddler being asleep but I heard plenty of laughter coming from the bar! Loved the pigs who amused us with their snoring.
Location was stunning, very quiet apart from the mooing from the cows in the farm next door which I love! New quay is a must to visit. We saw wild dolphins and seals. Wish the weather had been better for us but still managed time on the beach.
No WiFi where we were pitched but that was a blessing!

    Disliked:

If I’m being fussy could have done with a toilet block a bit closer when pitched in the non electric field.

Thanks too for the feedback about the toilet block on the top field - it is something we're working on (currently in the planning process!)

    The pods, facilities and cleanliness

    Disliked:

The rules, too strict for us as a family with 5 young childeren. They were asked not to play with a ball by our pods as there was a field located further away for them to do this, (they just got excited as we arrived) at 8:15pm we were asked to turn our music down that in our opinion was not loud, i could not here it from the next pod so assumed it would be ok, we could here the music from the bar which was very loud and did not feel the need to complain. my 2 year old niece walked across decking infront of a tent and we were asked if this woulnd not happen again, i assumed this would b ok on a family friendly site even though it was a one off as she ran ahead of me, we came as a family with young children and didn't feel we were loud but were made to feel like we had to be quiet. Such a shame coz its a clean well layed out site but i wouldnt return for these reasons. All the visitors seemed happy and friendly but the staff were constantly doing rounds reminding of the rules.

From the manager...

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review, and for your feedback about our rules.
We are quite strict about them because we want to make sure that Dolbryn remains a peaceful site for everyone to enjoy; however, I'm sorry that you felt they were overbearing. I hope you still enjoyed some aspects of out site.
Thanks again for your comments,

Directions

Turn south off the A484 in Newcastle Emlyn towards Capel Iwan. After the leisure centre turn left and follow the signs for two miles. The site is on the right after Bronygarn garage.

If you are using a GPS system please ensure that you go to Newcastle Emlyn and then to Dolbryn. Do not go via Capel Iwan (the village) as the route is very narrow.

Local attractions

Dolbryn's location is among award-winning beaches, coastal walks, fishing and more wildlife spotting, as well as waterfalls, steam railways, theme parks and family days out (the Welsh Chocolate Farm should be a sweet hit with anyone).

Start off on the doorstep at the market town of Newcastle Emlyn, on the River Teifi two miles from Dolbryn and with castle ruin, farmers’ market, shops and cafés; a leisure centre with indoor pool is nearby too.

The village of Cenarth, a few miles away on the borders of Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, is famous for its small waterfall Cenarth Falls and for its salmon fishing. The National Coracle Centre, a museum devoted to the small traditional boats, overlooks the Falls along with the old flour grinder Cenarth Mill.

Heading coastwards, the coastal paths and beaches around west Wales could be combed for weeks: try the beaches of Newport Bay, Fishguard and Aberporth, porpoise and dolphin spotting around Cardigan Bay, home of one of only two pods of bottlenose dolphins in the UK.

At New Quay, find out all about it and arrange a marine wildlife spotting boat trip at the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre, or plunge fully in and take a course at Cardigan Bay Watersports.

More modernly, there are theme parks and farm parks aplenty around here too: the white-knuckle rides at Oakwood Theme Park in Narberth is one of the most popular attractions in Wales, and the Dinosaur Park in Tenby has a maze, adventure playground and, natch, dozens of dinos.

If the kids have the wildlife bug after seeing the animals at Dolbryn, you can take them one of several country parks and animal attractions within about 25 miles: the funfair and animals at Kilgetty’s Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo; horse-riding at Pembrey Country Park, and gibbering with gibbons at Manor House Wild Animal Park.
