  • Peaceful family site in a Teifi valley wildlife haven
  • A five-minute drive from Newcastle Emlyn and the river Teifi
  • Small fishing pond on site; animal feeding activities on weekends
Scheming a weekend away, hopefully somewhere quiet, rural and surrounded by wildlife? Round up the kids or bring your other half to Dolbryn Caravan and Camping, a peaceful but family-friendly site five minutes' drive away from Newcastle Emlyn and 25 minutes from the beaches in Aberporth and Penbryn. For grown-up concerns, the site has a small fishing pond for a couple of hours’ peace with the rod, or you could just wander around the site to attempt to spy on some wildlife species. This is a wildlife haven with birds, fruit and flowers around the valley, stream, ponds and hedgerows. There are plenty of plans to be made for the kids too, such as letting them help to feed the chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs and goats (this activity is only running on weekends and holidays). A pizza trailer, microbrewery and beer garden are on hand for some easy and tasty food and drinks during high season too. Meanwhile, those who would rather busy themselves with roasting a snack over the fire can head to the oak tree island for firepits. One of the barns on site has been turned into a cosy family-friendly bar (open at weekends and evenings in high season only). During high season, the site also has a small shop selling a range of locally reared meat and baked goods, as well as everyday essentials. Other amenities at Dolbryn Caravan and Camping are well thought out too. Another farm building has been fashioned into separate heated facilities for ladies and gents, plus a family room with disabled access. There is also a large fridge-freezer and a laundry room with two washing machines.

Local attractions

Dolbryn Caravan and Camping's location is a short drive away from beaches, coastal walks, fishing and wildlife spotting, as well as waterfalls, steam railways, theme parks and family days out. Perhaps begin by wandering around the market town of Newcastle Emlyn (five minutes' drive) on the river Teifi. It has a castle ruin and a farmers’ market, as well as plenty of shops and cafés suitable for sampling the local goods. The village of Cenarth, a few miles away and on the borders of Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire, is famed for its small waterfall Cenarth Falls (10 minutes), as well as salmon fishing. The National Coracle Centre At Cenarth Falls (10 minutes), a museum devoted to the small traditional boats, overlooks the falls along with the old flour grinder Cenarth Mill. Heading coastwards for half an hour or so, the coastal paths and beaches around West Wales could be combed for weeks: try the beaches of Newport Bay (35 minutes), Fishguard (45 minutes) and Aberporth (25 minutes) or go porpoise and dolphin spotting around Cardigan Bay, where bottlenose dolphins are sometimes spotted.
