Finding a secluded spot surrounded by mature woodlands in north Wales is a fine idea in itself – but it gets even better here if you’re into your fishing. And that’s because Commonwood Leisure has 10 lakes around its 60-acre site, catering for everyone from kids and beginners to pros (who may like to wrestle with the 60-pound whopper that lives in the catfish lake…) Not fussed by fishing? This lakeside setting should be pretty splendid for you too: there’s plenty of space to relax by the water, taking in the views and lighting up a barbecue or firepit for warm evenings. Getting out and about should be straightforward as well: the site is five minutes’ drive away from the village of Holt (for pubs, cafés and an excellent farm shop) and 10 minutes from the centre of Wrexham. It’s all set up to be as straightforward as possible at this well-maintained park too. There is a café serving tasty food and a licensed bar with background music (these two are open at select times on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during high season; opening days, times and menu items are reduced during low season). On site, there are also indoor and outdoor seating areas and plenty of areas to walk (a plus for dog owners, as the site's dog-friendly). If walking’s not such a hit with the kids, they can get stuck into rural life by spending some time with the herd of friendly pygmy goats on site.

Liked Great site will definitely return! Lovely clean and well kept site, flat pitches and great Fishing which we enjoyed despite the bitterly cold few days. Appreciated the steaming hot water in the toilets and spotlessly clean. Didn’t experience any issues with WiFi, kids didn’t want to leave

Liked Really peaceful and very well-kept, clean site. The pigmy goats were lovely!

Disliked The shop was closed both days we were there which was a shame, but just bad luck I suppose.

Liked I thought this was a great campsite. We only used the pitch, electric and wash facilities however there is also a shop and bar. Everything was in great condition.

Disliked My only complaint, and it’s only constructive criticism, is that the water in the toilet wash basin was cold and so was the air dryer so washing and drying hands left me feeling like I was in the Arctic. Brrrrr……
