Plenty of space

  • Well-maintained Anglesey pitches on a family-run working farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Parys Mountain; 20 minutes to Benllech beach
  • Very short walk to local pub; five minutes' drive to Amlwch
Up at the top end of the Isle of Anglesey is generally a great place to take a peaceful holiday – but it gets even better when there’s a local pub a mere 50 yards away. And that’s the situation you’ll find yourself in when you stay at Cae Ffynnon, part of a working farm about five minutes’ drive inland from Amlwch. Pitches at this small family-run site are well maintained and well located, within easy reach of walking trails, bike paths, beaches, boat trips and the port at Holyhead (about half an hour’s drive away for those boarding a ferry to Ireland). And of course there’s that village pub a short walk away for a good feed and a welcome pint after your day out. You’ll have plenty of space to spread out on your pitch when you’re staying here, and you’ll be provided with some handy amenities including an electric hookup and picnic bench for each pitch. Shared facilities include toilets, showers and a washing-up area and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids along for a stay here. Being so close to Amlwch means that you’ll have easy enough access to shops and places to eat (and the beach…) despite your peaceful immediate surroundings.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked Small, well laid out campsite.

Easy check-in...no staff around so I just called the number and was allocated a pitch number. Later on the owner (Len) called around to collect the balance of the money and answer any questions etc.

Len...very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area.

Lovely clean facilities.

Nice pub less than a minute's walk!

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It was on Anglesey

Disliked Instructed to pitch very close to the tent next to us. They played extremely loud music. Said the owner had given them permission to do this until 10pm. Not at all peaceful as advertised. We complained to the owner who said he would speak to the people playing the music, but they were leaving the next day. However, also unchecked shouting and screaming children running around our tent. Appreciate it is the summer holidays, but we had not seen or heard anything like this on the three previous campsites we’d just stayed on. We left our tent and stayed with friends and collected the tent the next day. We informed the owner that we would pay for the one night. The next day we left. Contacted the owner to arrange payment and he insisted we pay for the four booked nights. He sent texts directly to my phone threatening me with small claims court, saying that I would have a criminal record, branded a criminal and trouble with my credit rating if I did not pay the full four days amount. He said I had entered a contract to pay for four nights via PitchUp. He did not understand that he had broken his part of the deal by advertising a quiet campsite that clearly was not quiet.
There was no picnic table as advertised, which had been taken by other campers.
Toilets were dirty, one blocked with faeces and toilet paper.
Showers looked very small. Although we did not use them. Money has to be inserted in a coin slot outside the cubicle.
One washing up sink for a campsite with many tents.

I have complained to PitchUp, but doubt there is anything they can do. We have paid the full amount after receiving the threatening texts. But just to preempt a response to this review by the owner barring us from the site as he has done with other reviewers who gave a low score… we will never come back to this campsite.

From the manager: Sorry that you are so bitter about the situation you caused and making un true comments about the site. The site is a quite rural site, rules are no loud music at all,. The tent you accused of plying loud music was approached and the music was turned off immediately they were leaving the site the next day, regarding the showers and toilets they are brand new and only commissioned this season and are cleaned and inspected twice a day, and any problems are addressed immediately. You were offered a free stay at the site to put all the bad feeling behind, but you have not even responded to the offer but chose to make comments about the site.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It's difficult to rate this site, 2 stars is more of a reflection of there being no one on site to reinforce the site rules & keep the sparce facilities clean & replenished. Plenty of hot water & lovely views.
The actual pitch was large & on level ground.

Disliked The listing said each pitch had picnic benches to use, ours was non existent, there were a few scattered around, I have a feeling that people had just taken them to suit themselves. Would work much better if they were labelled like the pitches to ensure they stayed where they were designated.
Facilities, or should I say lack of them. 2 toilets with tiny hand basins & 2 electric showers, 1 shower with room to take the children in with the ONLY sink appropriate for cleaning teeth, the other only fit for showering individually. Cleaning only happened once every 24 hours.
There was only 1 sink for washing dishes, this made for time wasting queueing most days to wash up, no bin in the washing up area, so nowhere to put food waste if necessary apart from the communal site bins.
The fridge available was a table top fridge, that was ridiculously small for a site of 30+ pitches, with a tiny freezer section to refreeze blocks for your cool box.
Some of the other campers did not respect the site rules, making noise into the early hours & with no one on site to address this when it was happening.
As adorable as the chickens were wandering around, finding they'd left poo around your tent when returning from a day out & having to clean up before the children could get out of the car wasn't something i looked forward to either!

From the manager: So sorry to read this load of lies, the site is only a small site with 20 not 30+ pitches and the toilets and showers are new only commissioned this season, its also apparent that you never spoke to a.member of staff whilst you were on site anyway you can rabbit on and on as much as you like with you're lies but when you have finished take some time to read the true factual site reviews

Local attractions

A trip to Anglesey is usually all about the outdoor activities, and you’ll be well placed for those with a stay here. A drive of a little over five minutes will get you to a fishing spot at Llyn Alaw or a challenging but scenic round at Bull Bay Golf Club. Boats also head out from Amlwch harbour (five minutes’ drive) for sea fishing or just a bit of coastal sightseeing. There’s plenty of sightseeing to do on land too, whether you head out on the Anglesey Coast Path or aim for Parys Mountain (10 minutes’ drive) for a fabulous stroll through the colourful landscapes left behind by an ancient copper mine. The Copper Kingdom Centre (five minutes) will give you further insight into this aspect of the island’s past. And what about when you’d just like to sit on the beach, thanks very much? There’s a small stretch of sand at Amlwch, but you’d be better off heading to Lligwy (15 minutes), Church Bay (20 minutes) or Benllech (20 minutes) if you’re planning to spend a whole day swimming and sandcastle building.
