Pitch by the fishing lake
New
The fishing lake with Eryri in the distance
Level grass pitch
Kids

  • Small, friendly and quiet Anglesey touring site with Eryri views
  • Newborough Forest 15 minutes’ drive and Rhosneigr 20 minutes
  • Fishing lake on the grass field; pubs and cafés five minutes’ drive
At just a 15-minute hop in the car from the Menai Bridge, Birdworld Leisure is a small, family-friendly and oh-so-peaceful touring site with far-reaching views to the peaks of Eryri National Park peaks over on the mainland. The spacious grass pitches are level, and there’s access to water but no electricity. Modern facilities stand on the edge of the field, including toilets (one with disabled access) and a shower with plenty of hot water. Anglers can make a beeline for the on-site fishing lake or try their luck on the River/Afon Briant, which runs through the neighbouring field. Birdworld Leisure is dog-friendly too, and you can walk any four-legged friends directly from the pitches, through the forest at nearby Newborough or on Llanddwyn Beach. For those of you who are self-catering, the nearest supermarket is in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll (15 minutes’ drive). When you fancy a night off the cooking rota, you have a choice of pubs and cafés within five minutes by car, as well as seafront restaurants in lively Rhosneigr (20 minutes).

Guests consistently praise the friendly, helpful owners and appreciate the clean facilities, including useful toiletries. While some note the site is basic and the shower facilities could be improved, many find it budget-friendly and a great base for exploring Anglesey. Some guests have experienced noise from other campers.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Owner was great, massive pitch could just park up anywhere. Toilets were clean and had amenities (especially for women very thankful). Lovely field next to the site for dog walks and some light fishing.

Disliked a swing available for children was a nice touch but should have potential quiet time limits as many many children were screaming until late at night/early in the morning. obviously not the host’s fault but some quiet times could be a sign added.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Amazing place to stay. We had a lovely greeting from the owner and he was only too willing to give advice on the local area and where to go. Everything was spot on, very clean toilets and showers (nice and hot too). This is off grid so don't expect a 5* hotel, as other reviewers seem to have expected. Local village 2 mins drive, or if you fancy a pint or two in the local you can walk across the fields in 15 mins. Deffo stay there again. Very reasonable price for the views and facilities. :-)

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We loved this campsite so much!! We paid £50 last minute for two nights mid-august, and it was definitely worth it. The owners were so kind and helped us with any questions we had. Toilets were spotless, scenery was incredible and the overall vibe was amazing. The beach/forest is about a 10 minute drive from the site, and the village has a few corner shops which came in handy. I would 100% recommend this campsite to family and friends. We will definitely be back soon.

Local attractions

Children part of your holiday package? Foel Farm Park (10 minutes’ drive) offers plenty of fun on tractor rides and jumping pillows as well as meet-and-greets with sheep, goats and donkeys. Older kids will appreciate the rollercoasters and waterslides at GreenWood Family Park (25 minutes) back on the mainland, and there are beaches galore for bucket-and-spade days, including Llanddwyn (15 minutes) and Rhosneigr (20 minutes). Culture vultures wanting to bag a few historic sites can start with the ancient river crossing at Rhuddgaer Stepping Stones (five minutes), see the Neolithic Bodowyr Burial Chamber (10 minutes) standing in a field grazed by sheep, and check out the Bryn Gwyn Standing Stones (five minutes), which were once part of a large stone circle. You stand a fair chance of seeing red squirrels in Newborough National Nature Reserve and Forest (15 minutes), where you can also walk to the landmark lighthouse for spectacular vistas of Eyri peaks. Views over the Menai Strait are part of the attraction at National Trust-run Plas Newydd House and Gardens (15 minutes), where you can also stroll woodland paths looking for those elusive squirrels.
