  • Peaceful site a five-minute drive from Llangefni, in central Anglesey
  • Beaumaris Castle 25 minutes’ drive; Portmeirion one hour
  • Rural surrounding; dogs welcome; charging facilities
Gently floating off the shores of the northern reaches of Wales, the ancient island of Anglesey is a splendid spot for a whole range of outdoor breaks. And in the middle of the island, a few minutes’ drive from the A5 and A55 (aka the North Wales Expressway), is Ty’n Cae, a peaceful site that puts a whole host of brilliant beaches, castles and villages within your reach. Ty’n Cae sits in the small village of Rhostrehwfa, about a mile and a half (a five-minute drive, or a half-hour walk) from the slightly larger town of Llangefni, where there are shops, cafés and pubs. Also in town is the Nant y Pandy nature reserve, a peaceful boardwalk through a wildlife haven where you can also join the Lon Las Cefni cycle route. Back at base, you’ll be settling down on well-maintained grounds that are surrounded by wildlife and greenery. Ty’n Cae is the kind of laid-back place where you can bring the family along (including the dog, if you’ve got one) and gather around a barbecue while the sun goes down… The grass pitching field is set over a gentle slope and all guests have access to basic facilities including clean toilets (some of the composting kind) and hot showers. Chemical waste disposal, charging and recycling facilities are also available.

Electric optional gravel pitch

Liked: Nice welcome from owner
Good location easy to find
Quiet

Disliked: Only 2 shower/toilet units for whole site altho wasn't a problem at the off peak time we used the facilities.
And facilities quite basic
No cover over pot wash area and only one sink

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We have 2 toilet blocks, the customer was advised of this on arrival but possibly wasn’t listening to the information she was given.

Lovely 2 night stay. Clean facilities.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Very good location, easy to find, staff really helpful. Near to lots of amenities and activities, toilets and showers EXCELLENT, no messing around with having to have a cold shower and squeeze into a tiny space to do it, showers are individual so lots of room. Play area, farm animals, lovely spot would stay again.

Disliked: Only dislike was how exposed it was and there were very high winds but not the campsites fault obviously.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Park (although this ended up closed due to damage when we were there)
Nice showers
Can see animals in the field
Toilets not too far
Water close by

Disliked: Not obvious where ‘reception’ was so I couldn’t find anyone when I needed to speak to someone.
Sat at a table and chair and the chair collapsed with me on it (I am not heavy at all)
One set of toilets were not great- blocked and lacking in toilet roll frequently

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Unfortunately children that were allowed to run wild with no parents in sight vandalized the park and smashed the swings and climbing frame causing several hundred pounds of damage, the same children kept blocking the toilets by putting toilet rolls down them. I unblocked the toilets several times and restocked the toilet rolls only to discover the same problem a few minutes later. I assume the chair you mention is the one someone left beside the bin as it was broken? As I have no chairs for customers to use.

Electric optional gravel pitch

Liked: The operator sent us an email in advance, informing us of our pitch number and how things work on site. We set up our pitch in peace and were then warmly welcomed by Linda. Linda has a good heart and runs her campsite with a lot of kindness and passion. When our laundry got wet again in a rain shower, she dried it in her private dryer—thank you again for that. The facilities are simple but practical, and she cleaned the restrooms twice a day.

Disliked: Unfortunately the place is right next to the main road.

Local attractions

Overlooking the Menai Strait, Beaumaris Castle (25 minutes’ drive) is an unfinished fortress built by Edward I between the 1290s and the 1320s. A UNESCO World Heritage site (along with the castles at Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech), it features four formidable rings of fortifications. Traeth Llanddwyn (25 minutes) is a sandy beach backed by vegetation-rich dunes that are home to assorted birdlife. The beach is sheltered from Atlantic currents by the Llanddwyn Island, which is peppered with historical remains, from Celtic crosses to watchtowers and the remains of an ancient church. Portmeirion (one hour), on the estuary of the Afon Dwyrid river, is a pretty Italianate village built in the 20th century. Buy a gelato, take a stroll in the piazza, lined with pastel-coloured buildings, and pretend you’re on the Amalfi Coast…
