  • Luxurious pods on an Anglesey holiday park near Gaerwen
  • A 10-minute drive to Newborough beach; half an hour to Llanberis
  • Open-plan living space with TV, sofa bed and well-equipped kitchen
Those lovely Anglesey beaches, the grand peaks of Snowdonia National Park… either are within easy reach with a stay at Mornest Caravan Park near Gaerwen – and you'll also get a healthy dollop of luxury living in smartly furnished pods with lots of amenities. Cosy, compact and contemporary, these pods are designed for folk in search of a relaxed adults-only Anglesey retreat – with a huge glass frontage to allow you to soak up all those views. The open-plan living area has a TV, storage space and a sofa that easily converts into a double bed, and there's also a fully equipped kitchen corner and an ensuite bathroom with a full-size shower. Outside there's a small private seating area that's just the place for an alfresco breakfast or evening drink (a bakery and craft beer shop five minutes' walk away in Gaerwen can help provide the goods…). What’s included? Most of the basics are provided – bedding, cooking utensils and a few cleaning products – but you'll need to bring towels, along with any other bits you need to make the place feel like home. Keen to feel the sand between your toes? The Blue Flag Newborough (Niwbwrch if you're going with the Welsh name) beach is 10 minutes’ drive away – and if it’s mountain biking or climbing you’re after, Llanberis (half an hour’s drive) is outdoor-sports central over in Snowdonia on the mainland.

Camping pod

Liked: Great location for exploring. The campsite is beautifully kept and the pod is fantastic. Such a treat to have everything you might need already there! If you are used to camping this will feel like a bit of luxury. Easy self check-in/out.

Disliked: As with most tents/pods/caravans there doesn't seem to be any thought about what to do with wet coats etc. (No fault of the owners of course). This is a design flaw which could do with a remedy considering we have rain all four seasons!

Camping pod

Liked: I stayed in one of the 'pods' for a few nights whilst walking part of the Anglesey Coastal Path. It was a lovely peaceful site and was ideally situated for my needs. The 'pod' was extremely comfortable and ideal for a solo traveller. It was really cleverly designed and contained everything you could need. The site manager was very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Camping pod

Liked: - Pod exceeded our expectations - Everything you needed for a home away from home stay - Absolutely fantastic use of the small space, did not feel crammed even when it rained on our first night and we stayed inside - Camp is very well kept and presented, very clean and tidy - Easy to access and car parking available right at the side of the pod - Host checked in via text to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our stay, nice little personal touch we thought - Definitely coming back!

After more wildlife sightings? Grab your binoculars to search for lapwings and marsh harriers at RSPB Cors Ddyga nature reserve (15 minutes). To learn about the island’s mining heritage, visit the lunar-like landscape of Parys Mountain, once the biggest copper mine in the world, and then read the backstory of the mine at Copper Kingdom Centre (both half an hour).
