  • Glamping pod at a family-run holiday park at Benllech on Anglesey
  • Beach five minutes’ drive; half an hour to Snowdonia National Park
  • Kitchenette and private garden with an outdoor stove and barbecue
Surrounded by woodland, fields, heather and gorse, Bwlch Holiday Park is a splendid spot for anyone angling for some quiet time on Anglesey. This small, family-run park is set down a quiet country lane on the edge of the small village of Benllech on the island's east coast, with little to disturb your holiday other than the sound of birdsong. Secluded it may be, but it’s also handy for days on the beach, sightseeing trips around the island and expeditions over to Snowdonia on the mainland. And with the village just a mile up the road, there's also quite a collection of cafés, takeaways and restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive Accommodation is in a rather dapper glamping pod, sleeping up to four people, with a comfy sofa (doubling as a bed) and a large-screen TV for lazy evenings or days when the weather’s not up to much. All you need to put together simple meals is provided in the kitchen corner (which has a microwave, toaster and fridge), as well as a few basic utensils and cleaning bits. Outside you have more cooking options: the private outdoor kitchen area has a gas stove, barbecue and picnic area, so you can go the full monty on self-catering – if you need to stock up on foodie supplies, there’s a big supermarket in Llangefni (10 minutes’ drive).

Bach 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: We used as an upgrade to T4 camping so it was luxury to us to have both space & toilet facilities. Price reflects standard of pod. Very welcoming host & super walks to beach & countryside.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Very clean caravan, the inside was a little tired but we loved it. Very Friendly staff. Lovely quiet site. 35 minutes drive to the Holyhead beaches we love, plenty of activities like zipworld, pili palas and Bangor within a half hour drive. Asda, aldi, lidl, shops and a small town nearby in one direction or food places and beach the other direction at benllech. Great base for travelling around Anglesey.

Disliked: Lack of Wi-Fi and signal but I think there was an option of going to an out building to get it, we found a spot on the table in the caravan we could get some signal to pick up messages and emails, we didn’t mind as it meant we had a lovely quiet time away.

Bach 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: The main bed was very comfortable and having a toilet inside the pod was useful. We did bring our own utensils but there was a fully stocked kitchen so we didn't need to but we still used our own. Friendly neighbours.

Disliked: The unit wasn't very clean. On opening the sofa bed we found a used and dirty sheet so we took that off to find what I think was mold on the mattress. We realised on the 2nd night that the window doesn't close fully which was frustrating since the 2nd bed is directly underneath it. Everything sounds good on paper but actually being there is completely different. For the price I would expect it to be cleaner and without cigarette ends all over the front. Nobody around to collect payment on arrival and showers expensive for what they offer which is a boarded in room full of webs.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Lovely quiet out of the way site. Plenty of room for the two of us in a very clean and well equipped 4 berth static. This was our very first stay in a caravan anywhere and we weren't disappointed. Looking forward to booking again at some point in the not too distant future. Date, the on-site guy, was most helpful when we needed him.

Disliked: No reception as such but contact with Tissie by 'phone is adequate for most needs.

Bach 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Area was lovely, very quiet. Stayed in the pod which was clean inside, well equipped kitchen outside and cosy and warm in the evening inside watching TV.

Disliked: - Lack of check-in info, phoned on arrival as the sign said to do, was told no vacancies but on clarifying I had booked in advance I was given instructions to find the pod and that the owner would pop down but he never did despite waiting to pay as the booking states to pay cash on arrival. - No instruction on how to access the shower block, we managed to figured it out. Unfortunately due to the lack of signal it's not possible to call to ask for info. A little welcome/instruction would be useful in this situation. - The BBQ was left very dirty/burnt by previous guests but we managed to get it cleaned up.

Local attractions

Your problem may be deciding which beach to hit up first. Dog-friendly Benllech beach (five minutes’ drive/half an hour's walk) has golden sand for families to play on as well as shallow waves for swimming and paddling. For any birdwatchers among you, the beach at Red Wharf Bay (10 minutes' drive) has an abundance of waders and waterfowl; meanwhile, if you want to catch some consistent surfing waves, head to the west-coast Rhosneigr beaches (half an hour). There are many ways to explore the island so it’s easy to abandon the car and embrace the fresh air. Cycle along quiet lanes, admire the countryside on horseback or walk the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path – a particularly good section of the route starts in Moelfre (10 minutes), a pretty fishing village with displays on lifeboats and shipwrecks in the Moelfre RNLI Seawatch Centre. The landmark South Stack Lighthouse (40 minutes) sits atop a rocky crag and is open for tours, or you can learn about the island’s copper-mining tradition at the Copper Kingdom Centre (20 minutes). And of course, a short hop across the Menai Bridge brings all the active options of Snowdonia National Park (half an hour) on the mainland.
