  • Llyn Peninsula site with views of Moel y Gest hill
  • A five-minute drive to Black Rock Sands beach and 15 to Snowdonia
  • Within 10 minutes' drive of Porthmadog and 20 of Portmeirion
It'd be tough finding a better located north Wales site for walking than Tyddyn Adi Caravan Park on the edge of the Llyn Peninsula in Gwynedd (although there's lots to be said about touring the stunning region attempting such a feat). The site is at the bottom of the 850-foot Moel y Gest hill for roams among the rocky scenery and a half-hour wander to the scenic sweep of Black Rock Sands beach where you can join the Wales-wide coastal path. Hike along to Criccieth (or drive for 20 minutes by car) on this trail and detour up to the village castle sitting on a mound with excellent views out over the ocean; swerving in the opposite direction along Ceredigion Bay gets you a look at Harlech Castle (30 minutes’ drive) and its long sandy beach instead. Tyddyn Adi Caravan Park is also a 15 minutes from Snowdonia National Park – home to the highest peak in Wales if you’d like a serious stroll – with lots of low-key paths leading to one of the 100 or so lakes for amateur amblers too. Liking the sound of an especially laidback lope? The harbour at Porthmadog is 10 minutes’ drive away; this is also the place to go for a decent selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and pubs as well as access to regional buses and the Welsh Highland Railway serving other top tourist spots like Caernarfon, Beddgelert and the Aberglaslyn Pass. At the end of a day stretching the legs, the site’s a restful place to return to with its roomy, level grass pitches. Amenities include toilet facilities and showers as well as a washing-up room and a laundry service.

What customers say

This campsite offers a great location, close to the beach and local attractions, with many praising the friendly and helpful staff. Pitches are generally spacious and well-kept. While some facilities are new and praised for cleanliness, others are described as dated or basic, with ongoing renovations noted. Non-electric grass pitch

Liked This site was very close to the beach. It also served hot food and drinks at breakfast and dinner time which was a nice addition - although I didn't have anything, the option was there and it smelt lovely.

Disliked This was a rather expensive non-electric tent pitch. The most I had payed all week travelling around Wales. I appreciate the site was undergoing work to improve their facilities but for the quality of the current facilities, this felt like a lot of money for what was provided. The site was rather noisy and crowded too. There was no phone signal and as far as I'm aware, no WiFi. Staff were friendly enough. A

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked Lovely beaches close by and friendly staff.

Disliked Pitch was too small for tourers it felt cramped and felt boxed in. As when I had to leave cars parked in front and at the side we couldn't near to hook up we hadda to use the motor mover to get it out.
The pitch on arrival had dog dirt and rubbish strewn all over from previous people. The toilets were cramped and unclean. The bins overflowing and showers were outdated.
I feel it's overpriced as we stayed in nicer sites that week near Barmouth for less money.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked It's got very spacious pitches that are well kept.
Ladies showers and toilets near the reception are ok.
It was fairly quiet when we were there.
Tokens for shower are included (one token give u 5 minutes for a shower)

Disliked Toilets at the campsite are horrible. They are dirty, small and toilet paper is on the floor. As an adult you are barely fitting in that toilet - it's not comfortable at all. Toilets are also located around trash bins so it is extremely smelly when you walking by.
Mens showers and toilets are very tired and need refurbishment. At ladies showers the tiles are coming off the wall at some places and some plants are growing in from the outside.
If you going for a shower early then you got nice hot water but if you going later there is no chance for a nice warm water.
We had much better experience at the cheeper campsites.

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked It was a lovely area with being next to black rock sands and easy to get to the supermarket, peaceful and a lovely view

Disliked Staff could have been a bit more lenient on late check out, paying £15 for staying an extra 2 hours as waiting for the sun to dry the tent, would have been a nice gesture for them to let the tent dry a little

Local attractions

With handsome villages, historic centres and adventure sports to seek out as well, there’s also more to do in north Wales than walk. One of the most well-known settlements of the lot is a bit further from Porthmadog at 20 minutes' drive from the park: the colourful Italian-style village of Portmeirion is famed for being both the setting of the cult ‘60s TV series The Prisoner and the early September art and music Festival N°6. For history, the Llechwedd slate caverns are 35 minutes’ drive away; here you can learn about the area’s mining culture on a tour before bouncing about on the underground trampolines. Zipwires are also available to have a go at in this centre for a little more thrill-seeking…
