Calling all walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, beachgoers… there's a lovely base for all of you at Ynysymaengwyn Caravan and Camping Park, in the grounds of a ruined old manor house in rural Gwynedd, just over a mile from Tywyn and its beach. This is a peaceful spot indeed for a break, as the pitches are surrounded by woodland where you can head out for walks (with your dog by your side if you’ve brought them along for the ride) or follow the orienteering course for a bit more of a challenge. There's also an adventure playground to keep the kids busy, plus access to the Dysynni river at the bottom of the site for anglers to fish for salmon and trout. This is a park that likes to keep things simple and relaxed rather than providing lots of entertainment, but it’s got all the essential facilities sorted including a launderette, an Elsan point and toilets and showers with accessible facilities. The location of the park is at the southern tip of the Snowdonia National Park and very close to the coast, so there’s no shortage of things to do – whether you’d like hardcore hiking or something rather more gentle. And you shouldn’t go hungry either, as Tywyn has a good collection of places to eat including cafés, chip shops, takeaways and restaurants. The town also has a supermarket and bakery if you’d rather sort your own meals back at base or pick up picnic bits.

  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.
  • A cable measuring at least 4 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.
  • Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.
  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.
  • If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.
  • Fires, barbecues and/or firepits will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.

Liked: It's a fantastic campsite, there's a great children's play park, a lovely wooded area for a walk. The site is well maintained with good facilities, we will definitely be returning soon.

Liked: The place was amazing. It was our 3rd time total at camping in our lives. I was surprised for a price, because was very cheap! Camping itself had everything what we need: big field, where we could choose place where we want to sleep, showers with hot water, dishes cleaning station, laundry machines, huge forest next to it, playground for kids and even cute little bunnies running everywhere. I love the thing that if we go for a hike, there is plenty places tk visit, there is no need to take a car as walk paths are all around camping. I totally love this place. This is the place I want to come back. Additionally, u have few smaller towns like by 5min by car.

Liked: We had a lovely time here, the facilities were brilliant, cleaned every day and so close to where the pitches were so not far to walk at all. There were no issues, staff at reception were friendly and really welcoming and happy to help with anything

Liked: Everything was so relaxed! The grounds to walk around were lovely through woodland areas. The fairy garden is beautiful! Everywhere was clean and kept to a perfect standard. The site got quiet around 9pm so was ideal for the kids to get to sleep.

Liked: This was our second visit to this camp. It’s just perfect for what we wanted. There were 12 adults, 3 children and a baby.
Camp is very clean. Great showers. Water was lovely and hot.
Great washing up facilities.
The kids played all day with other kids on site. Safe place to stay and not to worry where they are.
Camp is a couple miles from town, where you can find local shops to grab any essential. Great chippy. Petrol station.

Liked: The site, and the staff (kind and helpful as well as friendly), relaxed atmosphere. Level with beautiful views, proximity to Ynysymyaengwyn ruins, woods, Dysyni and the ice cream shop.

Disliked: Some slight additional maintenance needed in the shower block - male shower / door and female shower but they were kept clean.

Local attractions

As well as being your nearest source of food, Tywyn’s a great little seaside town with a sandy beach, miniature golf, pitch and putt and tennis courts. It’s also the starting point for the Talyllyn Railway, which runs into the countryside for a scenic ride – a particularly nice way to do it is to ride to Dolgoch and walk to its waterfall before a cuppa in the tea rooms. Walkers may like to set out on the Wales Coast Path or head inland for a wander along the shores of Tal-y-llyn lake (15 minutes’ drive), scramble up the slopes of Penygader (20 minutes) or head to the walking hub of Dolgellau (half an hour) to explore the trails around there. Mountain bikers, meanwhile, will no doubt want to tackle the trails of Coed-y-Brenin (45 minutes) while birdwatchers learn about the residents of Dyfi Osprey Project (half an hour). Once you’ve spent some time on the sands of Tywyn, head a little further along the coast to explore the dunes of Ynyslas Nature Reserve and see the petrified forest at Borth (both 45 minutes).
