  • Well-maintained family site just over a mile from Tywyn
  • In the Snowdonia National Park half an hour's drive from Dolgellau
  • Access to woodland walks and fishing on the Dysynni river
Calling all walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, beachgoers… there's a lovely base for all of you at Ynysymaengwyn Caravan and Camping Park, in the grounds of a ruined old manor house in rural Gwynedd, just over a mile from Tywyn and its beach. This is a peaceful spot indeed for a break, as the pitches are surrounded by woodland where you can head out for walks (with your dog by your side if you’ve brought them along for the ride) or follow the orienteering course for a bit more of a challenge. There's also an adventure playground to keep the kids busy, plus access to the Dysynni river at the bottom of the site for anglers to fish for salmon and trout. This is a park that likes to keep things simple and relaxed rather than providing lots of entertainment, but it’s got all the essential facilities sorted including a launderette, an Elsan point and toilets and showers with accessible facilities. The location of the park is at the southern tip of the Snowdonia National Park and very close to the coast, so there’s no shortage of things to do – whether you’d like hardcore hiking or something rather more gentle. And you shouldn’t go hungry either, as Tywyn has a good collection of places to eat including cafés, chip shops, takeaways and restaurants. The town also has a supermarket and bakery if you’d rather sort your own meals back at base or pick up picnic bits.

What customers say

This campsite offers beautiful surroundings with extensive woodland walks and a popular children's play area. Visitors consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff, the cleanliness of the facilities, and the spacious, level pitches. While many enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and convenient location near Tywyn, some note occasional road noise and the need for a small on-site shop. Despite minor issues with dated facilities and occasional bird noise, most guests highly recommend the site and express a desire to return.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Able to pitch up with family members. Great location for Dolgech waterfalls, Tywyn beach only a few miles away. The site has a modern play area for the kids which can be followed by a nice woodland walk back to the touring site.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (maximum 2-berth)

Liked Really great site. Warm welcome from Christina and the kids who are just so lovely and helpful. Loved that you can pick your own pitch with some being in a quieter area. Loads of woodland walks that were so handy for walking the dog. On that note a really dog friendly site. Facilities were always clean and well kept. A great base for everything to do in mid Wales. We will definitely be returning

Disliked Only down point was that the side became more of a car park when on the Friday and Saturday. Maybe there needs to be a limit on how many vehicles per pitch as in my opinion five vehicles to one pitch is quite excessive and meant the pitches got overcrowded

Liked The facilities are kept very clean, and work well.

Our kids love the on-site park and woods to play in the views are stunning and only a short drive away from the beach.

Just out the back of the park there are also some great walks and some fantastic local pubs.

The owners couldn’t be friendlier and helpful if they tried this is our second year here and we plan to return again.

Disliked Nothing I can think of.

Local attractions

As well as being your nearest source of food, Tywyn’s a great little seaside town with a sandy beach, miniature golf, pitch and putt and tennis courts. It’s also the starting point for the Talyllyn Railway, which runs into the countryside for a scenic ride – a particularly nice way to do it is to ride to Dolgoch and walk to its waterfall before a cuppa in the tea rooms. Walkers may like to set out on the Wales Coast Path or head inland for a wander along the shores of Tal-y-llyn lake (15 minutes’ drive), scramble up the slopes of Penygader (20 minutes) or head to the walking hub of Dolgellau (half an hour) to explore the trails around there. Mountain bikers, meanwhile, will no doubt want to tackle the trails of Coed-y-Brenin (45 minutes) while birdwatchers learn about the residents of Dyfi Osprey Project (half an hour). Once you’ve spent some time on the sands of Tywyn, head a little further along the coast to explore the dunes of Ynyslas Nature Reserve and see the petrified forest at Borth (both 45 minutes).
