  • Peaceful farm site in Snowdonia with spectacular sea views
  • Three miles from the sea; a 35-minute drive from Cadair Idris mountain
  • A 10-minute drive from the Wales Coast Path, shops and eateries
Follow a bridleway and turn into a rural retreat in the south of Snowdonia… from Nant Madyn Camping, soak up views of the hills and mountains of Meirionnydd and the dazzling Cardigan Bay. A 35-minute drive away from Cadair Idris and three miles from the coast, you’ll be well set for climbing the mountain summit or descending onto the Wales Coast Path and counting off seaside towns and beaches along the way. This friendly farm site is based on a working beef and sheep farm, a mile north of the village of Llanegryn. Things are kept quite basic, so boil spring water to drink from the site and settle in for some sweet wild camping surrounded by the Welsh countryside. The site has chemical toilets with sinks, an outdoor sink with running spring water and a hot-water shower. Firepits can be hired and logs purchased from the site. It's also possible to hire a fridge or freezer compartment during your stay, and the site can provide some basic provisions such as bottled water, milk and limited tinned goods if you forget the essentials. Plus, park right next to your pitch. That way, it's easy to pop over to the car as soon as you hatch your next plan of action… or perhaps put your faith in the signposted paths running off directly from the site. The site is based 10 minutes’ drive away from Tywyn, a seaside town with much to keep you busy. Chug around on the narrow-gauge railway, play in the sand dunes or unwind on the firm-sand beach. In this town, there’s a great selection of shops, plus seaside restaurants and pubs where you can sample seafood at the same time as sea views.

Liked: Fantastic views Peaceful surroundings with walks from the site Very friendly and welcoming owner Allowed fires and bbqs

Disliked: Portaloos do the job and were kept clean but could do with lighting and a bin inside. The only bin on site was a small bin by reception.

From the manager: Thank you very much for your review. We appreciate the feedback. We will review the lighting around the toilets, we have had some issues finding suitable solar lights. With regards to bins in the toilets, we do struggle to find space to place bins there, but we will review this. Kind regards, The Jones Family Nant Madyn Camping

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We had a lovely bank holiday weekend at Nant Madyn . Emma was so friendly and helpful. We were able to use a fridge and buy water which was really useful. The toilets and shower were brilliant. My children loved watching the cows with their calves in the next field. The views from the campsite were stunning only wish we could have stayed for longer. We loved the area, completed the beautiful waterfall walk and had a lovely day at aberdyfi .

Disliked: Nothing.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The family that own and run the farm are very friendly and amazing people. They really made our stay very enjoyable.

Disliked: The shower (yes singular). It's hut with hot water. When we were there it wasn't working, so they let us use the shower in their house.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much for the lovely review. Since your stay out hot water shower has been fully installed on the site. We also have a cold water shower on the site which is fully operational. Many thanks, The Jones Family Nant Madyn Camping

Liked: The view

Disliked: Portaloos

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much for taking the time to review our campsite. We are constantly reviewing the facilities and how we can improve them. We will continue providing portaloos (with sinks) for campers this season. Portaloos work well for our site at the moment because it is a basic, pop-up campsite and we have not yet installed more permanent infrastructure. Please be assured that our portaloos are kept as clean and tidy as possible. As an update, we are installing a hot water shower on the site for this season and we will also be able to provide more fire pits for hire. Many thanks, The Jones Family

Local attractions

Hike or bike the day away in the Coed y Brenin Forest Park (40 minutes’ drive). Its tall treetops are just past Cadair Idris (35 minutes), the tallest mountain in south Snowdonia and naturally a great stop for many different types of footpaths, including routes past lakes and a couple of good rock climbing or mountaineering spots. Stop by the Mach Loop (25 minutes) on your way back for the chance to see fighter jets flying by from a group of valleys. Then roll on to the remote Castell y Bere (20 minutes), where a hike through a valley will reach the ruins of a native Welsh castle. Fancy throwing some seaside towns into the mix too? Along Cardigan Bay, Aberdyfi (15 minutes) has a long beach that's popular for sailing and other watersports, an 18-hole golf course and, of course, plenty of shops and restaurants too. For another family-friendly town, Fairbourne (20 minutes) has a beach, arcade and narrow-gauge railway. A little further away, take a day trip to Aberystwyth (an hour). This artsy seaside town is home to a river and beach for watersports and runs regular hillside steam train rides on the Vale of Rheidol Railway.
