  • Peaceful handmade glamping pods on the Llŷn Peninsula
  • Five minutes' drive from Aberdaron beach; half an hour from Pwllheli
  • Dog-friendly pods with ensuite shower room and woodburning stove
Peaceful and perfectly placed for peninsula pottering – Pencaerau Pods is a smart Gwynedd glamping site almost at the western tip of the Llŷn Peninsula, half an hour's drive from Pwllheli. Aim for this amiable site five minutes' drive from Aberdaron to bed down in a handmade wooden pod that’s been kitted out with lots of handy features, including a woodburning stove to keep the place cosy. There's also an ensuite toilet and shower room, so no dashing around in your nightie or jimjams here (unless you really want to…) Solar-powered lights and USB points are available within the pods. There is also a separate area with a fridge and mains electricity for charging devices. Each pod comes with a sizeable outdoor table on which to serve up your barbecued dinner or your fish and chips; acquire the necessaries for either spread in Aberdaron. It’s also a mighty fine place to pour out a drink or two and chill while the small sorts scramble about at the little play area (right by the pod so you can safely spy on them). Prise your good self away from the pod to poke about on the peninsula, scooting down to Aberdaron for beach days and boat trips to Bardsey Island or aiming east for more beaches, National Trust visits and many a day of cracking coastal walk.

Camping pod

Liked: Set in a very peaceful and calm location. The only other vehicles we heard were farm machines in the fields. The pods face towards the west, and the front of the pod is bathed in sunlight towards the end of the day! - Very clean inside, plenty of hot water as soon as you turn the tap. - Well provided, with hand and dish towels, cutlery & plates for 4 people around the table. - Because there are only 2 pods at the site, you'll not be bothered by crowds of children tearing around or late night revellers. - Comfortable double beds, one of which folds away as a sofa. - Fridge and 220v power in the utility shed adjacent. - Drying line for wet clothes provided. - Within walking distance to the village of Aberdaron , which has a good beach, a few shops, pub, chippy and bakery

Disliked: No dislikes as such, just a few things to bear in mind: - There is no mains electricity in the pod, there are 2 x 12v solar powered charging points where you can charge a phone or camera etc. There is 220v power in the small utility shed next to the pod. - Cooking facilities via a 2 ring gas hob. No microwave or toaster. There's a kettle supplied to boil water on the gas hob. - Bear in mind that the cellular network at this location is poor to non-existent, and there is no WiFi provided. - Lighting in hours of darkness is rather dim due to being on 12v power.

Camping pod

Liked: The pod really exceeded our expectations. It had everything you needed and the location was perfect - stones throw away from beautiful beach of Aberdaron. Pod was clean, showers were hot and was so tranquil and peaceful. They had thought of everything. Will 100% be back.

Camping pod

Liked: We loved the location - it is a very peaceful part of Wales and gave us a great base to go and explore beaches and nearby towns for fish and chips and ice cream. The Pod and facilities were awesome and had everything we needed to have a comfortable weekend. The Pod was very clean and well set-up when we arrived. The process of checking in was great and very simple. The football goal posts were a great hit with our son and the other children staying there. Our dog loved being able to run about in the field.

Local attractions

It's the beaches that draw most folk to this part of the world – if that's the case for your good self, take a tour starting on the sands at Aberdaron or hauling your surfboard to Porth Neigwl (aka Hell’s Mouth, 20 minutes' drive). The squeaky sands (yes, really) of Whistling Sands are 15 minutes' drive away, and Porthdinllaen is 25 minutes away – worth the trip for a seaside drink in the famed Tŷ Coch Inn. Various watersports centres are dotted along the coastline, particularly in Pwllheli (half an hour): kayaking, paddleboarding and windsurfing are all among the offerings here. To have a go at wakeboarding before you hit the waves, get over to Glasfryn Parc (35 minutes’ drive), where there’s also go-karting, archery and other kid-friendly antics. Looking for laidback days? Take your binoculars for some birdwatching at Porth Meudwy (15 minutes) or head to Plas yn Rhiw (10 minutes) for a walk that takes in the National Trust manor house and gardens before heading off in search of a neolithic burial chamber.
