  • Friendly Eryri/Snowdonia site on the banks of the River Glaslyn
  • Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon Watkin Path five minutes’ drive away
  • Beddgelert’s cafés, pubs and railway station less than a mile away
What a gorgeous spot for a break in the fresh air of Eryri/Snowdonia National Park. Cae Du Campsite is on the banks of the River Glaslyn less than a mile from the pretty village of Beddgelert. Now, if you’ve heard of Beddgelert, that may well be because it’s known as something of a hub for approachable walking trails, and it’s got a Welsh Highland Railway station – and both of these elements make it a good base for exploring your surroundings. On top of that, the village has its own attraction in the form of Gelert’s Grave, and it’s got several pubs, cafés and craft shops too. The walks from Beddgelert aren’t the only options around here, of course – in fact, one of the national park’s big (literally) attractions is just up the road in the form of Yr Wyddfa/Mount Snowdon. It’ll take you about five minutes to drive to the trailhead for the Watkin Path, passing the pretty Llyn Dinas lake as you go (handy for a post-climb wild swim perhaps?) And there’s plenty more to keep you busy… including a short walk to the excellent Sygun Copper Mine, an outing to the beach in Porthmadog, an adrenaline-filled excursion to Zip World Llechwedd or history-tinged wanders around the castles of Criccieth and Caernarfon. Little bit tired after whichever outing you chose? Well, there’s plenty of space to relax back at the park, and you should hopefully sleep well in these peaceful surroundings. Wifi, a washing-up area, a launderette and bathrooms with toilets and showers are on hand to make life comfortable, and you’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue or light a campfire to finish your day in traditional camping style. Firepits can be hired from reception (subject to availability) between 9.30 am and 5pm. Logs, kindling and firelighters are also available during this time period. As a good place to unwind, Cae Du Campsite has a strict rule that music must be turned off and noise kept to a minimum after 9.30 pm.

What customers say

This campsite offers a beautiful location with stunning mountain views, ideal for exploring Snowdonia and enjoying walks directly from the site. Guests praise the spacious and clean facilities, friendly and helpful staff, and convenient proximity to Beddgelert village. The site is well-maintained, peaceful, and dog-friendly. WiFi is available and generally reliable. Some minor points include patchy WiFi in certain areas and the occasional desire for more shower facilities during peak times. Overall, it's highly recommended for a memorable outdoor experience.

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Beautiful scenic campsite with lovely surround areas

Disliked The attitude of some staff members was appalling, and we were made to feel unwelcome and treated differently from the regular guests. Families with children did not seem welcome at all with the children were told they could only play in a remote area at the back of the campsite, near open water and public access, which felt both unfair and unsafe. At times, it genuinely felt as though animals were treated better than children here.

Although groups are accepted on the site, we were told we could not even talk together after 9:30pm. We completely understand rules around loud music and noise but the restrictions imposed on us felt excessive and unreasonable. One staff member even stated, “this is not a family campsite,” which was extremely disappointing to hear.

What made this more frustrating was the inconsistency in how rules were enforced. Other ‘regular’ groups were allowed to play rugby and gather in a gazebo until 2am without issue, while we were scrutinised from the moment we arrived.

Considering the premium price we paid, the experience was incredibly disappointing and far from what was advertised. I believe Pitchup should reassess this site and reconsider how it is being marketed, particularly to families and groups. I have already contacted the campsite directly regarding these concerns but have yet to receive a response.

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked The views surrounding this site are gorgeous and it’s a short picturesque walk into a small town with a couple of shops and pubs for food.

Disliked My honest review from a family who camp a lot, this site is more for hikers / walkers or adults only and I think the pitch up website should be updated to reflect this.
It’s not set up for families and I am not sure they want them either.
This is the first site we have been to where zero ball games can be played anywhere near the camp. I did see this beforehand and understood theres a field allocated for this but the field in question is quite far from alot of the plots. Its located before the camps main entrance gate, next to open water with no safety fence and on a busy walk path to town so isn’t suitable for young ones without constant adult supervision. The reason we love camping so much is to watch children be children again, play outside from morning to evening, making friends with others and watch them play / have fun.
I also found it to be expensive for what it offers from a facilities point of view, we paid more to stay here then we did for Callowtop or Parkfoot.
If this site does want to appeal to all then I would suggest perhaps changing that allocated field for play be to a quiet field for the hikers / couples only and find a space closer to the main fields for games / children with perhaps a small play park.

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Absolutely beautiful site so well maintained and clean . All staff extremely friendly and helpful could not wish for a better site . There are rules in place such as no music after 9.30 pm and they do ensure it's adhered to bit that's good for everyone. The site is located in such a beautiful setting with a river running through and a very short walk to the local village where there are coffee shops , pubs , and even a pizza place with an ice cream shop and another beautiful walk along the river ...dogs are welcome on site and it's great that they are so dog friendly...if I had to pick a fault was there was no where to let your dog off lead which is no big problem but when your dog is used to running you have to go off site to achieve this but this is literally the only thing I could think of . 10/10 this place and staff are just so nice .

Disliked Only no where to let dogs exercise off lead

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Lovely place. Super clean and tidy. Super accommodating and really helpful staff. Great location.

Disliked Showers were a bit odd, instead of showering your are sprayed and it got everything wet.

WiFi where I was pitched was really patchy, but that’s not a bad thing.

Local attractions

Families can inspire their kids with a love of nature on a stroll along the Aberglaslyn Gorge straight from the campsite. Seasoned hikers might make for the start of the Watkin Path (five minutes’ drive), one of them more challenging routes up Yr Wyddfa/Mount Snowdon, or search out strenuous scrambles up Glyder Fawr (20 minutes). If you’re looking for more unusual activities, Zip World Llechwedd (35 minutes) will appeal with its zipwires and subterranean golf course. Perhaps that’s a bit too high octane for your offspring? Head for Llyn Dinas (15 minutes’ walk) for wild swimming and paddleboarding, or laze on the beach at Porthmadog (25 minutes). Slip a slice of Eryri heritage into your holiday with a wander around the museum at Sygun Copper Mine (five minutes’ walk, there’s a playground for younger kids too), or enjoy history-tinged meanders around the castles at Criccieth (25 minutes’ drive) and Caernarfon (half an hour). And don’t forget to pay your respects at Gelert’s Grave (15 minutes’ walk), the final resting place of a faithful dog once companion to the medieval Prince Llewelyn the Great.
