  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Fully-serviced hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked This is a lovely place to visit. The campsite is well maintained and near Bala lake.

Disliked Pitch 12 was too close to other motorhomes that had an awning. They took up a lot of space. We heard every noise from others. So it was not as peaceful as the last time we were here.

Derw 2 bedroom safari tent (pet friendly)

Liked From the moment we arrived everyone was so helpful. We were able to get into our tent early , we stayed in Drew and to say it had everything and more than we expected . We did jot expect hot water nor a telly ( which we did not use) the campsite is very clean and the shower block is the best we have ever seen , the area so beautiful and lots to do around. Really recommend use by the butchers you can order from . We walked into the town and got the meat straight from the butchers , the town has everything you need and some lovely little coffee shops . The whole holiday was perfect and already booking for next year along with our daughter/ son in law and grandchildren . Thank you for such a wonderful stay and for a fantastic campsite see you all again soon

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (XL)

Liked We have just come back to touring since 2020, This was our first family holiday back in a caravan as we have had a static for the past 5 years.
Very anxious but it was like we had never been away, Lovely site, Perfect for everything we wanted to do.
We liked the high street being a walk away, We liked the day out on the train and 1 day we drove to Barmouth which we also enjoyed.
First time holidaying in Wales and we were very surprised and already plan to come back October half term.
Showers very clean, Busy some evenings but that's to be expected.
1 night my husband left his wedding ring in the shower block and when he went back some very nice person had put a note on the door saying it would be in reception in the morning, THANK YOU to who ever did this.
Perfect pitch we could hear a stream just at the back of us very relaxing.
Can not fault this site at all.
A+

Disliked Only thing I can say is not having a park for the kids, But my 15 year old was not bothered.

From the manager: Thank you so much Lee - we're so glad you enjoyed your return to touring and that you enjoyed your stay with us so much, you plan to return in October!

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
