The Ridings Caravan and Camping Park: View from our tent!

General

  • Small friendly site in Babell hamlet, a short drive from pubs/food
  • Beaches, Chester Zoo and Snowdonia within 45 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes from the A55 for easy cross-country journeys

Fishing, golf, horse riding, walks and beaches by day, trotting to the local pub of an evening – sound like the kind of holiday agenda you could possibly consider? If so, you’ll be settled among similar souls at The Ridings Caravan and Camping Park, a friendly little place in the teeny hamlet of Babell.

Outdoorsy antics galore can be had just a few minutes away, and this is also a rather fine spot for those seeking to venture a little further, perhaps to the beaches of the north coast, the mountains and lakes of Snowdonia National Park or the excellent Chester Zoo. (It’s worth noting that though the views may be decidedly rural, the A55 is handily just a few minutes’ drive away.)

However you choose to fill your hours, cap off a fine day by taking the short drive to the local pub for dinner, or by stoking up a barbie or cosying up round a firepit on site (available to rent should you not fancy carting your own).

Being a relaxed kind of place, amenities have been kept on the simple side: a shower, toilets, washing-up area and chemical disposal point are all provided and guests can pick up logs to test out their firemaking skills.

Please note

A charge of £0.20 applies for the use of the shower.

Large site but mainly caravans set up there. We were greeted when set up and the owner was great, really friendly and stood talking with us for some time and gave advice on local amenities and attractions.
We had 2 young children and a dog and there was plenty to do. There was a large field for the dog to roam on and the children were able to play on the park and see the animals whenever they wanted to.
The shower and cleaning facilities were excellent and much needed after we had come from a campsite with no shower. Recently fitted and always clean. Also a good area to clean pots with hot water available.
The site is in an excellent area with shops and large supermarkets nearby and excellent local pubs for a change of scenery and pub food.
Excellent campsite and would return again and recommend to friends.

Welcoming , the fact it’s small. Kids had the park and grass area to play. Our girls loved being off with the other kids.
Showers and toilets and washing up area was fabulous, clean and had everything we needed.
The location appeared in the middle of nowhere which is peaceful and relaxing. Places to visit are less than hours drive which gave us plenty of options for days out.

This is a fantastic little site which offers a peaceful environment with basic but excellent quality facilities and large flat pitches.

I stayed with my 7yo old daughter and Stan (the dog) and we had a great time. The site is brilliantly maintained by Bryan & Sharon who gave us a warm welcome and were very accommodating throughout our stay. There are a good number of seasonal pitches on site and everyone we met was welcoming and friendly.

The site is entirely fenced off which gives a feeling of privacy and security and I had no issue with my daughter going off to play with her new friends at the on site playing ground. The toilets and shower blocks are some of the cleanest I have ever seen on a camp site and located near (but not too near) to pitches along with cleaning/refuse facilities.

The location of the site makes for an ideal base for reaching other 'touristy' areas of North Wales too.

Overall we had a great short stay and we will definitely be visiting again in the future - thanks again to Bryan and Sharon, see you again soon!

The campsite and facilities were all clean and well kept. We were all able to fit into the spacious shower and bathroom facilities at once and it made washing easier. The owner was friendly and helpful. We were in a small tent whereas everyone else was in a caravan so we were something of a novelty. The site was definitely aimed at caravans rather than tenets which was not a drawback but with these extra facilities, it was more costly than a simple pitch in a field. The campsite had a very friendly and open feeling with campers wanting to help or share where they could.

The area around the park has plenty of other fresh-air activity, too: horse riding, golf and fishing are within a 10-minute drive, and it’s a 45-minute journey to Surf Snowdonia. For a dose of sea air, Talacre and Prestatyn beaches around about 20 minutes away, or you can reach the elegant resort of Llandudno in 40 minutes.

Chester Zoo and the Welsh Mountain Zoo, half an hour away, are both popular picks for family days out, or you may like to meet the sea creatures at Rhyl’s SeaQuarium. And (this being Wales) there’s always a castle to visit: Gwrych, Conwy and Rhuddlan are all within half an hour’s drive to inspire your budding knights.
