General

  • Small friendly site in Babell hamlet, a short drive from pubs/food
  • Beaches, Chester Zoo and Snowdonia within 45 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes from the A55 for easy cross-country journeys

Fishing, golf, horse riding, walks and beaches by day, trotting to the local pub of an evening – sound like the kind of holiday agenda you could possibly consider? If so, you’ll be settled among similar souls at The Ridings Caravan and Camping Park, a friendly little place in the teeny hamlet of Babell.

Outdoorsy antics galore can be had just a few minutes away, and this is also a rather fine spot for those seeking to venture a little further, perhaps to the beaches of the north coast, the mountains and lakes of Snowdonia National Park or the excellent Chester Zoo. (It’s worth noting that though the views may be decidedly rural, the A55 is handily just a few minutes’ drive away.)

However you choose to fill your hours, cap off a fine day by taking the short drive to the local pub for dinner, or by stoking up a barbie or cosying up round a firepit on site (available to rent should you not fancy carting your own).

Being a relaxed kind of place, amenities have been kept on the simple side: a shower, toilets, washing-up area and chemical disposal point are all provided and guests can pick up logs to test out their firemaking skills.

The site was perfect, very clean and spacious between pitches. The staff were very accommodating and shown us great courtesy. There is a park for children and a pub with early opening hours that serves breakfast not even 5 mins down the road. I would highly reccomend staying here in which I have to a number of people and will 100% be returning.

Tranquility, friendliness and cleanliness. The site is basic but has everything you need and if very clean and well maintained. We have stayed on bigger and newer sites but this surpasses everything with its simplicity. Plus Bryan and Sharon go out their way to make sure you are comfortable etc. Your a valued customer here, not just a person. Highly recommend.

Great location peaceful site. 5 mins drive nearest pub, 5 minute walk to cafe, 10 minute drive to supermarket. We stayed for 2 nights which was our 1st time camping. The site was easy to find very clean with all facilities needed such as shower block, toilets and playground.

We had a tent pitch with electric hook up which had drinking water points located nearby.

We stayed with our 2 children that enjoyed playing with the other children on site and at the playground. We were happy to let our children run around and felt very safe them doing so.

The owners are very helpful and friendly and clearly care that you enjoy your stay.

We would definitely recommend The Ridings Caravan and Camping Park for first time campers in North Wales, more experienced campers and Caravan site in North Wales. We will definately be back. Thanks again.

We have stayed here before in a tent it was our first time in a touring caravan. We chose the location because it wasn’t too far for us to go on a trial run with our new caravan. We loved it and the owners are so helpful and nice . Play area was brilliant entertaining our boy. Facilities clean and tended to regularly. Nothing is too much trouble . Bryan helped the hubby back the caravan into the pitch( novices). A nice campsite with a good feel to it

Local attractions

Want to go for a walk? Take your pick from the coast path, the mountain and lake trails of the Snowdonia National Park and hikes along the northern part of the Offa’s Dyke Path. Gentler souls may like to stroll around Basingwerk Abbey and the Greenfield Valley Heritage Park 10 minutes away in Holywell, while more intrepid types make an assault on Moel Famau, the highest hill in the Clwydian Range.

The area around the park has plenty of other fresh-air activity, too: horse riding, golf and fishing are within a 10-minute drive, and it’s a 45-minute journey to Surf Snowdonia. For a dose of sea air, Talacre and Prestatyn beaches around about 20 minutes away, or you can reach the elegant resort of Llandudno in 40 minutes.

Chester Zoo and the Welsh Mountain Zoo, half an hour away, are both popular picks for family days out, or you may like to meet the sea creatures at Rhyl’s SeaQuarium. And (being Wales) there’s always a castle to visit: Gwrych, Conwy and Rhuddlan are all within half an hour’s drive to inspire your budding knights.
