Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park: Touring field

General

  • Peaceful rural park in St Asaph
  • Four miles from the beaches and funfairs of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Excellently-kept amenities and plenty of tourist info on site

Did you know that - thanks to the Diamond Jubilee of good Queen Lilibet - that UK got three brand new cities in 2012? One of the newbies, St Asaph in Denbighshire, is home to just three thousand people if you’re curious about this tiny gem, come to Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, where you’ll be perfectly placed to join in any right royal knees-up that might still be going on in St Asaph, and to visit the classic Welsh coastal resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl.

Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park is a peaceful rural site with well-kept pitches and with amenities kept to high standards by the friendly helpful team. There’s a great range of tourist information available on site to help you make the most of the local area.

You’ll find a handful of shops, including a convenience store, butcher and chemist in the nearby village of Dyserth (don’t miss out on a stop at the stunning Dyserth waterfalls while you’re there).

Beautifully kept grounds situated in a lovely quiet spot of the countryside but close to lots of places to visit..
Had the option on booking in to pay a little extra to stay for longer on departure day, so we had an extra day of adventures. One of our favourites!

    Disliked:

Needed an extra long cable where our caravan was to reach the electric hook up point

Well kept site but shower block a little dated15/06/2021

  • Liked:

Large pitch, grassed area at rear of pitch large enough to sit outside, fully serviced as described, well kept grounds, peaceful, was on a pitch surrounded by sited caravans, close to A55, friendly and helpful staff, pitch I was on was quite level, but on a hill so many pitches are on a slope, TV reception from my small digital aerial was great.

    Disliked:

Hard standing gravel was very loose and really dusty which was taken in the van every time you went in, and when leaving was all over my mats and awning carpet, will be getting it off for weeks, toilet/shower block was clean but was dated and not great, not much time given on the water from push taps and showers, hand sanitizers were squirty bottles placed at the entrance to the bin area and elsan point, kind of defeats the object, needs to be hands free fixed on the wall, not bottles that everyone picks up, the one near the elsan point was broken anyway, only one elsan point on the site, had to walk some distance with heavy cassette uphill to the service point, shower block and bins in the same area so again not near the pitch, WIFI was extra charge £12 for 1Gb and only SKY so probably slow, so just used the data on my mobile, signal strength was ok, No designated dog walk area, outside the site there is a small area of grass at the side of the road however a sign tells you that any dog fouling carries a fine of £1,000, roads around the site are narrow so not great for walking the dog

We really enjoyed our stay at Penisar, the campsite is lovely and peaceful. All the facilities were exceptionally clean and maintained and it is in the perfect place for getting out and about to see other parts of Wales. Maybe a small site shop would be an idea just for milk bread eggs etc
We we would definitely recommend and will be going back hopefully later in the year

Local attractions

For families, the safe sandy beaches, funfairs and plentiful tourist attractions of Rhyl and Prestatyn - just four miles away - will no doubt be top of the list. The attractive seaside resorts of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are also within an easy drive.

Fishing fans can try the trout farm ten minutes up the road from Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, or head into St Asaph to fish the River Elwy; walkers can saunter through a superb selection of scenery, including nearby Offa’s Dyke, or drive to Snowdonia National Park and hike the mountains and lakes; and golfers will also find that this area suits them to a tee, with a huge choice of courses including Caerwys, Meliden, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Holywell and Prestatyn.

Other top picks for sightseeing include the village of Betws-Y-Coed and the neighbouring Swallow Falls; the imposing remains of Rhuddlan Castle; and seventeenth century Bodrhyddan Hall, where a 3,000-year-old mummy lurks among the armour and period furniture...
