General

  • Peaceful rural park in St Asaph
  • Four miles from the beaches and funfairs of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Excellently-kept amenities and plenty of tourist info on site

Did you know that - thanks to the Diamond Jubilee of good Queen Lilibet - that UK got three brand new cities in 2012? One of the newbies, St Asaph in Denbighshire, is home to just three thousand people if you’re curious about this tiny gem, come to Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, where you’ll be perfectly placed to join in any right royal knees-up that might still be going on in St Asaph, and to visit the classic Welsh coastal resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl.

Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park is a peaceful rural site with well-kept pitches and with amenities kept to high standards by the friendly helpful team. There’s a great range of tourist information available on site to help you make the most of the local area.

You’ll find a handful of shops, including a convenience store, butcher and chemist in the nearby village of Dyserth (don’t miss out on a stop at the stunning Dyserth waterfalls while you’re there).

Nice and quiet....not too far from the express way which gives easy access to different beaches and places of interest...but far enough away so not to hear it.

    Disliked:

The toilet block being next to the caravan pitches...caravans have toilets in them....I have two young children so had to bundle them both up when I needed the toilet as it was to far away to leave them playing with the other kids.

the staff were kind but that was all

    Disliked:

it rained every day and dispite we cant do anything to change that the field very quickly turned into a nightmare it was over crowded there were only two spots where I could pitch my tent the first being at the bottom of the field between two caravans I thought that it was for tents but hey ho if id pitched there and the caravan parked in the corner was to leave before I did id have had to take my tent down so they could get out there was supposed to be 3 meters between each pitch didn't happen we were packed in tight the occupants to our left came home late each night and ended up tripping over my guide ropes we were that tight the electrics kept tripping I had to keep restting it just to have a cup of tea there was a road at the back of us which was in constant use day and night the entrance to the field was being used as a race track for some campers and all the owner did as place 6 sheets of ply down its been likethis for years so why hasn't he build a proper entrance he has for the perminant caravans the toilet block was nice but its definatly in the WRONG place I will never be going back there the signs said that the children was not to cycle between pitches but on the road with care all I heard was the owner telling my children to stop riding on the road but stay in the field theres nothing at all there for kids for miles around wales im sorry to say has lost my confidence as a nice place not just because of the weather and the park why its called a park ive no idea it dosnt come over as one its just a field and a caravan site that's it no play area no shops no pool no pub no club nothing a lot of money to rent a small piece of land for a few days not worth the money at all the shops in the two main towns RHYL AND PRESTATYN close at 6pm even during the peak period and theres now only two arcades in RHYL and they now close at 9.30 it appears to me that wales tourests trade is dieing fast soon there will be no point in going back ever

From the manager...

Yet again, people have not read the description of what is on site. We do not advertise a play area, shop, pool, club or any other entertainment. If that is the type of place you wanted to stay you need to be paying a lot more than our prices. As for the weather this is beyond or control, if you didn't already know that! I do greatly apologise about Rhyl closing early and only 2 arcades being open until 9.30pm, but yet again this is not our responsibility, maybe you should have gone there earlier in the day than letting your children ride their bikes on the road, may I add they will have been asked to ride in the field as it is safer for them to do so rather than up and down the road.

You needed to use the car to go anywhere really. Closest shops were a few miles away but the country lanes were not really suitable for walking along with children.

Local attractions

For families, the safe sandy beaches, funfairs and plentiful tourist attractions of Rhyl and Prestatyn - just four miles away - will no doubt be top of the list. The attractive seaside resorts of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are also within an easy drive.

Fishing fans can try the trout farm ten minutes up the road from Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, or head into St Asaph to fish the River Elwy; walkers can saunter through a superb selection of scenery, including nearby Offa’s Dyke, or drive to Snowdonia National Park and hike the mountains and lakes; and golfers will also find that this area suits them to a tee, with a huge choice of courses including Caerwys, Meliden, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Holywell and Prestatyn.

Other top picks for sightseeing include the village of Betws-Y-Coed and the neighbouring Swallow Falls; the imposing remains of Rhuddlan Castle; and seventeenth century Bodrhyddan Hall, where a 3,000-year-old mummy lurks among the armour and period furniture...
